People are here to help people who have issues, not listen to griping. If you don't like Windows 10, fine. Don't use it.

I hope that you were able to go back to Win7 and I'm sorry that you had issues with the upgrade.

    Hi jettman

What program\application did you use to create the 3 disk recovery?

    Reason I ask:
Usually, the resultant backups would be bootable, so that they can used to recover an unbootable pc such as yours. If any of your backup disks are indeed bootable, I would have thought that disk number 1 would be the most likely candidate...Although you might have to alter the boot order via the bios to access it.

So back to the question, what did you use to make the backups?

I booted using disk drive. It went back thru whole 3 disk setup then on restart same old same old. I guess something was not put back as far as drivers on roll back.

Mine wouldn't show backups on drives until I turned on system restore and windows back up.

I'm confused now! Surely it should just be a case of booting from backup disk #1 and more-or-less selecting where you want the image to be stored. Am I missing something?

No mate I created a backup image of windows 10 shortly after the install just to check everything was working as it should, I then created the repair cd however the image could not be seen by the repair cd so I then went about finding out why.

Then I found out that windows restore had been turned off during the install, when I enabled that and turned on windows file backup the image was then read by the rescue cd.

Infact I'm doing a image backup now as there is a new update ready to install.

Is the Windows 10 calculator broken too? I'm pretty sure 100,000 out of 50,000,000 is 99.8%. And the point is that even if the success rate were as good as you imagine it still is not much comfort to those with broken systems.

Yes, my fingers were fat. And yes, I do agree that Microsoft pushed the whole "Oh Look! Free Upgrade! Click Here!" too hard.

System Restore seems to be disabled by default, a very bad decision by MS.

The thing is...the whole backup/restore/recovery thing really annoys me. I just don't know what Microsoft was thinking.

They offered their free promotional upgrade which essentially meant that a large percentage of the world population were going to upgrade, especially with the saturation-style marketing of Win10.

How they could not have included an automated imaging/backup process as part of the upgrade is beyond me. I'm sorry, but windows.old is not the same as an image. It does not afford anywhere near the same protection.

The first thing that appears when a customer chooses to upgrade should have been something along the lines of "Windows will now create an image of your existing system. Please choose a target drive for the image" . They could have included an opt-out but the default should have been automated for the average user. And of course System Restore should also have been enabled by default. And finally, once an upgrade is a complete and the device boots for the time, a dialog prompt advising users to make a recovery disk with a short explanation of how it can be used in emergencies, should have been included by default.

So many problems due to lack of backups or recovery media not working because system restore was not activated etc. And then to top, an overwhelmed MS support that is both insufficient in both numbers and training to resolve customer support needs efficiently.

I find it all very poor.

On the plus side, I have made money out of the situation. Every cloud etc.....
