Windows 10: Windows has detected an IP address conflict

Sorry I did not take a picture of this error, but I've been getting it pretty often. "Windows has detected an IP address conflict". It does not seem to cause serious problems, but I'd like to understand the problem.

Any ideas?

This is a Gateway desktop, operating in a household with wifi. Other people use the wifi to watch Netflix and Amazon Prime or Google's Youtube.

I tried what you suggested but unfortunately IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM !!

ANY OTHER IDEAS ??

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community.

Check to see if you have tried the following.

Method 1: Check Dynamic Host Configuration Host Protocol (DHCP) settings on the router. Contact the router manufacturer or the ISP for the same.

Method 2: Release and Renew the IP configuration.

• Click Start, type cmd. Press Enter.
• Type the first command ipconfig /release and press Enter.
  
• Type then the second command ipconfig /renew and press Enter.

More than likely, one of the computers or devices on your home network has a static ip address, and is duplicating one that is being assigned by DHCP.

 

So should I be concerned?

No Nothing to be concerned..
For an Example u connected your phone to your Wifi.. and it got an IP address of 192.168.1.5.. and later you disconnected it..
Now you connected ur computer since 192.168.1.5 wasnt being used by any device..your router gave same IP address to your computer... Now you tried to connect you phone again.. and conflict..


If the massage annoys you a lot .. Login in to your Router and reserve a specific IP to your computer ..
But Nothing to worry about

 

I had this problem for a while. It seemed that for some reason the ipv6 stack was assigning the same ip to multiple computers. The problem went away though, so I assume it was a bug in the ipv6 stack. What version are you running?

 

It does seem that this problem has gone away. Thanks for the responses.
