Windows 10: Windows Hello compatible camera can't be found anymore

Hey,


a couple of days ago my Windows Hello compatible camera stopped working all of a sudden. On the Windows lock screen I see a message "Sorry, something went wrong. Please login with your PIN" and in the Sign-in options in settings I see "We couldn't find a camera compatible with Windows Hello". I didn't install any Windows Update right before that happened and I also didn't install any tools or updated drivers or anything. It really happened all of a sudden. It worked on one log-in attempt and did no longer after another log-in attempt.


The camera itself is okay. I re-installed the SSD that came with my PC with a (nearly) straight from the factory Windows and the camera works perfectly fine there, so I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem here.


I'm running Windows 10 with the 1903 Update, Build 18362.267 and as I mentioned, it just stopped working all of a sudden. I'm pretty sure I haven't installed any software or drivers or updates right before it stopped working (I might be wrong though).


I cannot even remove the Windows Hello Face Recognition because the button is disabled (see attached screenshot).


Long story short: my Windows Hello compatible webcam is no longer recognized as such and I have no idea why. Appreciate any tips!

If reinstalling the driver for your camera and reverting back to version 8.1 did not resolve the issue, we suggest running the
automated troubleshooter for Windows apps. Click on
Run the troubleshooter button to start the diagnosis.

If the will occur after running the automated troubleshooter, you can re-install the relevant drivers in
Compatibility mode. Follow the steps to install the driver in compatibility mode:

• Go to the location where you had saved your downloaded setup files of the drivers and right click, then select
  Properties.
• Select Compatibility Tab.
• Place a check mark next to Run this program in Compatibility mode and select the Windows 10 operating system accordingly from the drop down list.
  
• Let the driver to install and then check the functionality.

I appreciate for trying the troubleshooting steps for resolving the issue, as a next step I would suggest you to follow the below method and check if it helps.

An outdated or incompatible driver can cause this problem. As an initial step, I suggest you to visit the manufacturer website and install the latest driver for Windows 10.

If the driver for Windows 10 is unavailable, you may install the latest driver in compatibility mode.



Compatibility mode runs the program using settings from a previous version of Windows.

Follow the below steps:

• Right-click
  on the setup file of the driver and select Properties.
• Select Compatibility tab.
• Place a check mark next to
  Run this program in Compatibility mode and select previous version of Windows from the drop down list.
• Let the driver install and then check the functionality.

Thanks. Installing the driver in Compatibility mode really helped. I can now use the camera with no problem (HP ProBook 4510s, with no driver for Windows 10 available).
