Windows 10: Windows Hello Facial Recognition only working on far left side of window

I posted a question a week or so ago and I got the generic, update drivers, update O/S, update firmware and then do more drastic reset Surface instructions

I am not resetting my surface and lose all my applications and configurations.


My updates are current and there are no devices that need updates.


I took the 1909 update and after that my Windows Hello stopped working.


I removed my profile and tried to recreate my facial recongnition.


After I input my pin code the camera comes on and I see my face on the , but nothing happens.


Then I noticed that if I move my face to the left that all of a sudden a GRID pops up and a squared on the screen pops up. I moved back to the center and the grid disappeared and the box disappeared as well. I moved back to the left side and the grid and square appeared again.


This time I didn't move and a blue line traced the box and then it said complete.


But now in order for HELLO to work. I have to have my face on the far left side of the camera view for it to work. I can't be centered in front of the camera.

Annoying.


Is there any way to update the HELLO application that does the recognition?

Is this a known issue that MS is working to correct?

I have a Surface 5th Gen.


Please don't reply with instructions to check drivers and updates, I have DONE that.

Also, don't reply with instructions to reset my surface to factory settings, etc.


This has to be something with 1909 and HELLO, not my Surface itself.

Facial recognition

Hello Bill,

We need to do further investigation on your concern so that we will know why the facial recognition quit working:

• Have you recently made any changes/updates prior to this issue?
• Is there an error message when you try to sign using facial recognition?
• What is the make and model of your computer?

In the meantime, I would suggest that you perform the troubleshooting steps in this
article.

Windows 10 Hello facial recognition feature

Sounds like a driver issue with the camera: MS requires special IR (infrared) capabilities from cameras for Windows Hello facial recognition to work. You should visit the HP support pages, and make sure you've got the right driver installed for facial recognition.
