Windows 10: Windows Hello sign in options stopped working

I've been using the Windows Hello fingerprint to sign into my Thinkpad T460S for the past 3 years when it stopped working all of a sudden, along with the Windows Hello PIN.


Now all Windows Hello options say they are currently unavailable, and when clicked into, that something went wrong see screenshot below. As such I can't even delete or change the PIN / fingerprint I had set up before.




I've looked into previous threads and have not been able to find an answer. I'm not in a group so not on Windows Hello for Business.

I have tried checking C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC but that folder is already empty

The drivers are up to date - if I make a new local account the PIN and fingerprint does work, but for that account only. The problem still exists on my main account and I would prefer not having more than one account on my computer.


Help fixing this would be greatly appreciated!

My hello sign in stopped working.

• Are you pertaining on Windows Hello sign-in? If yes, does it mean that the facial recognition is not working?
• Is there an error message displayed when using Windows Hello?

Meanwhile, it is better to check the status of Windows Hello sign-in option in your computer. To check the Windows Hello status, follow these steps:

• Click the Start button and select the Settings
  icon.
• Choose Accounts from the list.
• Select Sign-in options in the left pane of the window.
• Under Windows Hello, kindly check the status of it.

Windows 10 Hello Missing from signing options

It is obvious you did not read my question, because all those things were listed in my question. I have found the answer for all those who have the surface pro 3 and surface pro 4 keyboard with fingerprint reader. If you can not see the windows hello setup
in the sign in option, do the following and it will work every time:

Here are the steps that might fix our current problem regarding the windows Hello:

• Press and hold (or right-click) the Start button, and select Command Prompt (Admin).
  
• Stop the biometric service by typing net stop wbiosrvc.
• Delete the fingerprint template database (assuming C:\ is your system drive) by typing
  del C:\windows\system32\WinBioDatabase\DB192749-088D-2130-13F0-E6129F1E2BEA.DAT.
  
• Go to Start, and select Settings > Accounts >
  Sign-in options, and under Windows Hello, select
  Set Up > Get Started to re-enroll your fingerprint.

If does not appear after this time setup up a pin sign in and then windows hello will appear.

To change Sign In option, follow the below steps.

  Type Setting in the search area on the taskbar and select
  Settings.

  Select Accounts.
