  1. Windows Hello stopped defaulting to camera

    Last year I used Windows Hello and camera successfully under Windows 10 Pro 1709. Meaning I turned it on and was unlocking my PC that way for months. Mind you, I always lock my PC when I step away from my computer or it would do that automatically after 10min of inactivity. So every time I came back to my desk, screens are black, I would move the mouse, immediately could see the Logitech Brio cam start flashing red and my PC would be unlocked immediately, so fast that sometimes the screen were not displaying anything yet, still waking up. Loved it!

    I upgraded my PC to 1809 and didn't notice right away this new issue. Now, every time I get back to my desk, move the mouse, the Windows Hello wants my PIN as default. I sure can click on Sign-in Options and select my cam and it's working fine. But I never had to do this under 1709. One thing I noticed: if I lock my PC or let it lock, the Logitech Brio and Hello look for me. If they can't see me because I'm away (or out of the view), Hello eventually gives up telling me the cam authentication couldn't let me in and then default to the PIN. Problem is, if I try again, it's set to PIN and never tries to default back to cam. Under 1709 this was never an issue. Now it seems under 1809 it's the new behavior.

    I checked the registry as well to make sure the cam is my default mode of authentication for Hello:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/identity-protection/hello-for-business/feature-multifactor-unlock

    I checked and mine is set to 8AF662BF-65A0-4D0A-A540-A338A999D36F.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\UserTile

    GUID for each sign-in options:

    PIN {D6886603-9D2F-4EB2-B667-1971041FA96B}

    Fingerprint {BEC09223-B018-416D-A0AC-523971B639F5}

    Facial Recognition {8AF662BF-65A0-4D0A-A540-A338A999D36F}

    Any ideas or suggestions?

    :)

  2. My hello sign in stopped working.

    Hi,

    This problem that started after installing the last Windows update might be caused by outdated or corrupted device drivers. For us to better assist you, we'll be needing additional information:

    • Are you pertaining on Windows Hello sign-in? If yes, does it mean that the facial recognition is not working?
    • Is there an error message displayed when using Windows Hello?

    Meanwhile, it is better to check the status of Windows Hello sign-in option in your computer. To check the Windows Hello status, follow these steps:

    • Click the Start button and select the Settings
      icon.
    • Choose Accounts from the list.
    • Select Sign-in options in the left pane of the window.
    • Under Windows Hello, kindly check the status of it.

    As an initial troubleshooting step, we suggest keeping the device drivers like camera driver up-to-date. For your reference, check this article on how to
    update drivers in Windows 10.

    We'll keep an eye out for your response.
