That KEY is for the preview, and in fact, there are threads here that list the different keys. But, these are only for the Preview.

Read The Insiders Hub. If you are using an Insiders Build, you can upgrade directly to the final release. Also know that not every build that shows up on WU is an Insiders Build.

  4. Windows Insiders will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 RTM for free

I started out reading every post but may have skipped one or two towards the end of the thread. If I repost something already mentioned my apologies. I think the intent is to save you from having to reinstall Windows 10 when you go to the RTM build. If you ungraded from Windows 7 or 8 to your current Windows 10 Insider preview build, that qualifies as your free upgrade from Windows 7 or 8. Your current build knows you did an upgrade and passes that info onto the RTM build. If you clean installed that's a different story, you may have to prove ownership of the qualifying OS, Windows 7 or 8 to get a fully activated Windows 10 RTM install. That's just my interpretation based on what little tid bits are out there.

I read insiders will still get builds to test after RTM is released, I don't how that is going to work or are they going to consider all users testers?

Some of the top people would have to know what's going on and what the plan is at this point.

  10. The little bits of info that do slip out are so open to interpretation that it just spurs numerous rumors etc. Like the "even pirated copies of Windows will be allowed to upgrade to Windows 10". Yes they can upgrade, but they won't be able to activate Windows 10 without going legal and buying a license. At least that's the way I read it. I guess it all depends on whether your a skeptic, cynic or an optimist etc. *Wink

  11. In any case, if you haven't signed up to the Insider Program, now might be the time to do it. As mentioned already, I wouldn't be surprised if they close it out to new members at some point. Other wise its going to get flooded with new members trying to score a free copy of Windows 10 just because they can.

Excellent point! Another 3-4 million "users", creating 10-12 million Outlook accounts so they can beef up their reserve supply of keys for "re-sale" on the high seas! HHmmmm..... *really

To me it is more like this:

But I did read that if you installed an insider build that it will be able to upgrade to the release and activate.

  14. Sigh, I'm sure there will be some of that. For some, if they see the word "free" they have to have it even if they will never use it. On the plus side, If your system isn't legal ( for whatever reason) and you know it, this would be one way to go legal. If it turns out to be true.

Also, it would be good for those systems that are legit but not reporting as legit.
