Windows 10: Windows installed KB4577586: Update for the removal of Adobe Flash Player, now the Start...

Just as the title says - Tried a system restore to previous day, which was successful. The update was removed, but my Start Menu is still jacked. Anyone know where I can start to resolve this?

Being offered KB4577586 via WU, automatically and silently installed without questions. Also removed the Flash Player icon in the Control Panel, So far, so good...

If you uninstall the most recent KB4580325 security update for Flash Player then check for updates, Windows Update will reinstall it.

So I tried it today to see what would happen. You cannot make this stuff up....

Actually the true story is told by 'Installed updates' in Control Panel. Although Windows Update had found the Security update for Flash Player, and went through the motions of installing it, with the Update for the removal of Flash Player already installed it was a nul event - nothing was actually installed.





It appears that the 'removal' update trumps the security update and the apparently 'successful' update recorded in the Update History was actually recording that Windows Update had looked at it and decided it was not necessary after all.

As I have found on other machines, installing KB4577586 doesn't actually remove previously installed Flash updates, but it does prevent them reinstalling after you manually uninstall them through Control Panel.
