Windows 10: Windows installer error 1315 "Unable to write to the specified folder"

I have a windows installer application created with Installshield. The installation always runs elevated "as Administrator".


As part of the installation, the user can select a location for the application's configuration files.

Some users will select a network location like \\server\share.


As part of the installation, a few files/folders are created in this location, so in this network share location.

If the user performs an uninstall or upgrade, the files/folders are removed uninstall or updated upgrade.


With a few users we are now seeing error 1315 on the uninstall or upgrade. So it appears that the installation does not have permission anymore, even though the initial installation created everything. This can happen if you uninstall right after you install.

The odd thing is that this issue looks like it is related to a recent Windows update.


We have a Win10 VM that has nothing else on it.

Build is 1909 18363.657

Install, remove, and upgrade using the network share location work fine


Take this same empty machine and upgrade it to

1909 18363.815
and the problem occurs using the same installation media and network share.


So it appears that a recent windows update did something to the permissions for installers.

I've been searching "error 1315" posts but have not found a "solution" that works yet. There is also an error 1606 that may be related.


If anyone has any insight let me know. Unfortunately most installers to not install any files to a network share location otherwise I think we'd be seeing more complaints.

windows xp installation and dual core am

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx

 

Unable to install any OS

Hi guys, I'm unable to install any OS. I tried ubuntu and got input/output error, tried installing window 7 error 0x80000010.

Downloaded iso's of both again and again still same result. Got a new SSD still the same, tried a different usb still the same.

I'm fed up, have been trying since the past 1 month still am unable to install.
I've listed my specs in my profile.

PS Have even tried/changed my ram.
Where the pug is the problem ?

I have been using live usb to work on computer for now but I need a permanent OS.

 

C windows installer folder - Delete?

He can do symbolic link redirection and move the files in it to a different location. *Wink
Better try it out in a virtual of first. Just a suggestion.

Like:
First move everything in c:\windows\installer to d:\installercache
Then delete c:\windows\installer folder
Then type this in command mode as admin
mklink /d c:\windows\installer d:\installercache

Removing those installer files is a bad idea. it might prevent you from updating or uninstalling apps.
