Windows 10: Windows is derailed when opening Edge or Chrome

I have a very nasty problem that used to occur only now and then in the past and resolved itself after a reboot. But as of today the reboot doesn't help anymore and I hope that anyone can help me avoiding a fresh Windows install.


As soon as I open an Edge or Chrome browser window - sometimes only after a few seconds - the follwing problems occur:


1.- All text fields in all applications stop to work but hitting specific keys will open specific application windows. Hitting "O" will open Office, "L" will open a browser window with the LinkedIn website, "M" will open Microsoft mail and so on.


2.- All applications that I launch will trigger the "Do you want to allow this application to make changes to your device" prompt.


3.- Right mouse click does not longer work anywhere.


4.- Popup windows do not longer work like the application popups when you hover over an active app in the task bar.


Curiously it turned out that using Firefox does not trigger this bahavior, which is my lifeline right at the moment.


Does anyone have a hint for me into which direction I could head to find a solution? By the way, launching Windows in safe mode does not help. The same problems occur after using Edge or Chrome.

Can't install Chrome from Edge in Windows 10

After reading several of the posts listed here, I too have been using Edge since updating to Windows 10 and could not download Chrome. So, following one of the suggestions, I went to the start button and opened programs and selected Windows Accessories
and selected and opened Internet Explorer and searched for Google Chrome download and it installed in less than 3 to 5 minutes max. Not sure why problem in trying to install using Edge but Explorer allowed me to get it down in minutes. Thanks for suggestion.

 

Edge Import Bookmarks from Chrome does not work

To resolve your issue with Microsoft Edge, we suggest that you clear your browsing data. Please follow the steps below:

• Click on the 3 dots at the upper right corner of Edge.
• Go to Settings.
• Go to Clear browsing data.
• Click on Choose what to clear > Clear.
• Try to import your bookmarks from Chrome to Microsoft Edge.

Windows 10 - Outlook Hyperlinks and PDFs Opening in Edge Not Chrome

I want to once again use Chrome for URLs and Adobe Reader for PDFs, but lost this after a Windows 10 auto-update.

I now too have the situation where PDFs in emails I receive in Outlook (2010) open in Edge, and when I attach a PDF to an Outlook email it shows as an Edge doc. Also, URLs in Outlook Emails open in Edge. PDFs and URLs other than in Outlook open with my
preferences.

I've reset all the defaults I can find to associate PDFs with Adobe Reader and URLs to Chrome. Also tried the suggested regedit change. Didn't help at all.

My Set Default Programs don't show Microsoft Outlook, just:

• Microsoft account
• Microsoft Edge
• Microsoft family restrictions
• Microsoft Solitaire Collection

Control Panel shows I have both Microsoft Office Click-to-Run 2010 (which includes Visio) and Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010 - English (which includes Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint).
