Windows keeps crashing on me whenever I right click a file and hover over "Open with"

Recently, whenever I right click a file on Windows 10 Desktop, and try to press "Open With," or even just hover the cursor over it, Windows Explorer completely freezes up to the point where it tells me to either wait or force it to close. Initially, I thought that this had to do with me trying to open files from a USB drive, but it also happens with files on my main hard drive. I find this incredibly frustrating as I have not downloaded anything new of significance that would be causing my PC to act up like this.

    :)

QuickBooks crash while opening data file

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

As you have mentioned that after Windows and QuickBooks update whenever you open a data file in QuickBooks, it crashes. We would like to know if any other programs are crashing apart from QuickBooks.

I suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned below:

    Method 1: Repair QuickBooks

I suggest you to try repairing QuickBooks and then open data file in it. Please follow the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows key + R, to open
      Run
      dialog box.
    2. Type appwiz.cpl and click on
      OK
      .
    3. Look for QuickBooks application from the list, right click on it and select
      Repair.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the repair process.

If repairing QuickBooks didn’t fix the issue, please refer Method 2.

Method 2: Open Sample data file

You can try opening a Sample data file in QuickBooks and check if QuickBooks crash. If QuickBooks didn’t crash while opening Sample data file, I suspect that the data file that you are trying to open is causing the crash. In this case, I suggest you
    to contact the
    QuickBooks support
    team.

Windows keeps crashing on me whenever I right click a file and hover over "Open with"

Excel - File open - hover over files - file names do not show up

    Office 365 / Windows 10 x64

Excel: File > Open shows a list of filenames.
Due to the limited space, long file names are cut off, regretfully so.
(There is a lot of unused empty space on the right of the File - Open dialog)

Problem: in case long file names with almost identical names it sometimes is difficult to select the one: the differences between these files are displayed. See attachment. One file is 02-2021 the other 02-2020, or vice versa?

Now, I suppose..., when hovering over the files, a pop-up would show up displaying the full file name(?)
Repeat: suppose, as with me it never did.

However, if my assumption is correct and indeed a pop-up should show up, then I wonder what could prevent this from happening.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!
