Windows keeps Re-Assigning Drive letter to Recovery Partition

    Hello,

I restored my Macrium Reflect system image, carefully only giving a drive letter to Drive C and not the other system partitions. Running Windows 10 1909 on GPT.
Ever since the restore Windows 10 keeps assigning drive letter E to the recovery 500 mb partition, making it appear and be writable, which is a risk of users accidentally tampering with it and is generally undesirable for it to take up a frequently used drive letter.

I already removed the drive letter with diskpart, but to no avail, a reboot brings it back. Also a chkdsk didn't help, there is no corruption.

    What do I do?

    :)

Windows 10 keeps assigning drive letter to recovery partition

I have several computers at home, all running Windows 10.

One of the computers, my gaming machine keeps assigning a drive letter to the recovery partition.

This is a clean install with no upgrade having taken place.

You cannot remove the drive letter from the Windows Management console due to the partition being a recovery one, so I have removed it using Diskpart; however, as soon as I reboot the drive letter reappears again.

How do I remove this letter permanently?

    Thanks,

    Shane

help. USB drive isn't assigned a drive letter.

Any usb flash drive I plug into my computer isn't assigned a drive letter. The physical drive shows in the "safely remove hardware" but it doesnt show up in disk management. I have tried to populate the volume thru the safely remove hardware properties window and it does pop up in the list but it doesn't stay there. This isn't a format or assign a letter problem. It's more complicated then that. Maybe one of the services needed for usb drive management was disabled? Suggestions needed. btw external usb harddrives work fine.

Assign different letter to recovery partition after upgrade to Windows 10

    Hi,

It is safe to change the assigned drive letter as long as no other program or service is dependent on that drives location. With recovery drives, you usually access their recovery console and data outside of the windows environment (By pressing a keyboard
button during boot), and so it would be safe to change the assigned letter.

However if your recovery program for you manufacturer, or any other bundled software that relies on that drive, is run from within previous operating system, then it may interfere with its ability to function properly. Consult your OEM for further detail
    on their program dependencies.

    Refer the steps below.

    • Right click on the Start menu

    • Right-click on the drive letter you want to change and click Change Drive Letter and Paths.
    • Click Change...
