Windows 10: Windows keeps updating the graphics drivers in the middle of a game, crashing the game

For the longest time, I had my registry set to not install driver updates through DDU, I have no problems with regular Windows updates, but I like to have control over when specifically graphics drivers get updated, and it worked fine. Now every once in a while out of the blue, that setting gets reset and Windows proceeds to install a graphics driver update. It has the worst timing for this and seemingly always happens whilst I am playing a game, crashing the game in the process.


Two of the times it attempted to do it, it broke the graphics driver to the point where no games would run and Geforce Experience would refuse to update the drivers, which forced me to use DDU to get rid of all of the display driver files and to manually reinstall said drivers through Geforce Experience.


I update my display drivers straight through Geforce Experience, and do it often, therefore I would like an option to turn off graphics driver updates permanently so that I can update when the computer is not doing anything else myself. Is there a way to turn off driver updates in a way that Windows will not revert the change spontaneously. I don't want to turn Windows update off, just driver updates specifically.

• Select the Start button, type Device Manager, and select it from the list of results.
• Expand one of the categories to find the name of your display adapter, then right-click (or tap and hold) it, and select Update Driver. For graphics cards, expand the Display adapters category, right-click your graphics
  card and select Update Driver.
• Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
• If Windows doesn't find a new driver, you can try looking for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.

If these steps don't work, try reinstalling the driver:

• Open the Device Manager.
• Right-click (or tap and hold) the name of the display adapter.
• Select Uninstall.
• Restart your PC and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

You may also run the game in compatibility mode to make it work on your Windows 10 PC by following the steps below:

• Go to the game folder and right click on the setup file.
  
• Click on Properties and go to the Compatibility tab.
  
• Under the Compatibility mode, check Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select the operating system where the game is compatible.
  
• Let the drivers install and launch the game again

Windows 10 Steam game crashes

Computer crashes when trying to game

2) Is the issue confined to War games only?

This issue might occur, if graphics driver is not updated properly.
