  1. Windows Legacy Backup Error Message - Skipped Files at Mapped Drive

    THE SOLUTION

If you navigate to and left-click on the main "Libraries" folder in Windows File Explorer, and then right-click on the individual library component categories such as "Documents" or "Pictures" or "Videos" and then left-click on properties, you will see some network drives or other invalid "library locations" listed in the top section of the dialogue box. If you right-click on each of the invalid library locations and then left-click on "remove" this will delete the invalid library location that is causing the error when running the legacy Windows 7 backup program in all versions of Windows, including Windows 10. If this error was occurring before you upgraded to Windows 10, it will carry over to Windows 10. I have no way of knowing how the network drive in my case became added to the library locations under the "Documents" category on my PC, however this is exactly what happened and was causing the "skipped files" error message 80070002. If you have any questions let me know.

    :)

    Backup Files Skipped

I am backing up my Windows 10 desktop in its entirety every day to a Seagate external drive. I routinely getting an error message pertaining to skipped files. I followed the paths of these files and was able to delete two of the three.

When I follow the path of the remaining skipped file it doesn't exist. This is the error message:

Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Pictures. ErrorWindows Legacy Backup Error Message - Skipped Files at Mapped Drive :(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002))

I follow all the way to systemprofile. When I open that folder up there is AppData and something called NtUser.dat. There is no file called Pictures. Naturally my pictures is located with documents where it should be. How do I get rid of this "phantom"
file so I don't receive the error message anymore?

The Backup completed but some files were skipped

    Hi,

Thank you for using Windows 10.

We regret for the inconvenience. I would like to inform you that if you are trying to backup a file which is on the drive where the backup is being created, it will skip those files.

You may check in libraries if your personal files which you have already uninstalled are present there. If it’s there, you may delete those files & try to run the backup again.

You may also try the following steps and check if that helps:

    • Restore default storage locations on all folders (i.e. Pictures, Documents, Downloads, Favorites, Searches etc...)
    • Rename the folder in explorer to match the default folder.
    • Restore the default libraries and run the back up.

Let us know the updated status and we'll be happy to assist.
