Windows Live Mail opens .doc attachments with MS Word. How do I change the default to Open Office?

Live mail issues

Hi,

When you say ""the link" opens in Windows live mail; are you referring to the Windows Live Mail client?

This happens when the recipient has set the default program to Windows Live Mail. If they are using Windows 10, then they have to set the default program to Mail app. To do this follow the steps below:

• Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type Default programs and select the top most search result.
• Click on Set your Default programs and select the programs listed in the left side panel of the window to set defaults.
• Follow the on-screen instructions.
• Close the window after setting the programs and check if the changes are effective.

Method 1:

Repair Windows Live Mail

Refer to the steps mentioned below:

  Press Windows Key + R
  
• 
  Type appwiz.cpl
  
• 
  Right click Windows Live Essentials
  
• 
  Click Uninstall/Change
  
• 
  Click Repair all Windows Live Programs
  

If the issue still persists, proceed to Method 2.

Remove and Reinstall Windows Live Mail referring to the link mentioned below:

Windows 10 Live Mail

I would suggest you to try the steps provided in the article mentioned below and see if it helps you to fix the issue.

What do I do if I can't download my attachments in Windows Live Mail?

If issue persists, I would suggest you to repair Windows live mail as its corruption might be the cause of your issue.

We recommend that you try repairing Windows Live Mail to check if it fixes the issue. Before you repair Windows Live Mail, you can backup your files to make sure that you do not lose any of them. You can click on this

Once your files have been backed up, you can then follow the steps below to repair Windows Live Mail.

• Press Windows key + X, select Control Panel from the list.
• Click on Programs, then Uninstall a program.
• Look for Windows Essentials.

  A window will pop up asking to either remove or repair Windows Essentials.
