    Windows Live Mail error message

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum so please be gentle with me! I am reasonably computer literate (started when Win 3.1 was the current OS) but new to Win 10 which I have just acquired pre installed on a new PC.
I use WLM and got it running well on two separate accounts on my PC. I then looked at Outlook to see if it was any better. On returning to WLM I got an error message as shown below. This now appears every time I open WLM on that account, on the other account there is no problem. I have tried everything I can, with help from a user guide, to correct what I suspect is a mistake on my part but cannot fix the error. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

There was an error when attempting to connect to the Windows Live Calendar service. If the error persists, check to see if there's an upgrade of Windows Live Mail available or contact a service representative.

The calendar still come up with all information

    See if this will help.

Go to your Programs and Features > scroll down to Windows Essentials (2011, or 2012 ) > right click at it > click Uninstall/Change > click Repair.
See if Repair will fix the problem.

Thanks for the advice but no go. I followed the instructions and got the 'Successfully Repaired' result but on opening WLM the error still exists.

  6. It sounds as if something (a third-party browser, for example) has set the GlobalUserOffline registry value to True. With Windows Live Mail closed, launch Internet Explorer and press Alt-F to open the File menu. If Work offline is selected, click it to deselect it. If it's not selected, select it, wait a moment then deselect it.

Now try to launch Windows Live Mail again. Do you get the same error?

  7. It also could be this:
This will only happen when you're signed in in Windows Live Mail. There are major changes taking place at Outlook.com, and you may be suffering the consequences of this. To see whether you are one of those affected,

    • When viewing your calendar, click the right-most button on the ribbon and select View account information.
    • After signing in to your Microsoft Account and the account Hello! page opens, click View inbox in the left-hand column.
    • Your Outlook.com page should open. In the top left-hand corner, you may see this:

Windows Live Mail error message [IMG]

    • If you do, your account has been upgraded and your contacts and calendar will not sync any more. If you also have the same account as a mail account in Windows Live Mail, it won't sync either, because the DeltaSync protocol that these functions depend upon isn't supported by Outlook Mail.
    • If you don't, you have a different problem

    jefflr,

Would you consider uninstalling Windows Essentials > then reinstall ?

Export you emails first if you want to keep them before uninstalling.

I'm a bit worried about doing that, last time I tried something similar I lost the WLM calendar causing a lot of problems. If I can safeguard the calendar I'll give it a go but it doesn't seem to back up with the other stuff.

I feel your pain and what is worse there are not any really good solutions that work at the present. Just be aware that Microsoft is making some big changes to their mail servers which have caused several problems with WLM. Also be aware that WLM is not "officially" supported in Windows 10. Having said that I still struggle along with WLM in Windows 10. I have it working somewhat, but I am losing confidence in WLM everyday.

In December 2015 Microsoft released an update KB3093594 to address WLM 2012 and the changes being made to their mail servers. It was targeted at WLM users on Win 7, 8, and 8.1. This update caused a storm of confusion and even more problems with WLM. Sometime in early February 2016 KB3093594 was pulled from the public as Microsoft investigates server side issues. That was over a month ago and nothing new from Microsoft has appeared.

So that is where we are and until Microsoft does something to fix these issues the users of WLM will just have to wait or find an alternative email client. On a somewhat pessimistic note, WLM will probably never be supported in Windows 10. That is just my opinion. Who knows what Microsoft will ultimately do?

Open WLM and click on the Calendar tab and at the top see what you are logged into. On mine I have it logged into my MS Account.
