Windows 10: Windows Mail App: People Search Not Working Correctly

Up until yesterday, when using Windows Mail app, when we wanted to locate the email address for a recipient, we could type a string in the To: field, and the contacts in the People app would be searched for that string in the contacts' first or last name,


As of toady, the search is now returning based on matches in the contact's email address, notname. The search for recipients of recent emails also is being based on email address - notname.


On a second laptop, search is working normally.

Any fix for this?

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it.

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

• Open powershell as administrator
• Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
• Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)

 

Mail app will not open on 10041.

I did that to no avail, then I ran WSReset.exe; now I'm good on all 3, Mail, Calendar and People! *Confused

I suggest that you try the steps below and check if your issue persist:

• • In search bar type “ Windows Powershell”
  • Right click on it and choose “Run as Administrator”
  • Type the command listed below for the respective app.

I. Mail and Calender:

get-appxpackage *microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps* | remove-appxpackage

ii. People app:

get-appxpackage *Microsoft.People* | remove-appxpackage
