Mail app will not open on 10041.

    Hello Adam,

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it. Windows Mail app update causing crashes? :)

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

    • Open powershell as administrator
    • Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
    • Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)

    Hey Shawn,
I did that to no avail, then I ran WSReset.exe; now I'm good on all 3, Mail, Calendar and People! *Confused

Windows Mail app update causing crashes?

Mail app crash on Windows 10

    Hi Amanda,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

To have a better clarity on the issue and to analyze the root cause of the issue, kindly help us with the following details:

    • Which Windows 10 build is installed on the machine?

(Search winver from the Start menu to know the same)
    • Are you aware of any changes that happened on the computer prior to which this issue started?

A possible reason behind an app crash could be the pending updates. I suggest you to install the updates pushed, if any pending, and check if it works. Refer
    Update Windows 10
to know how to check for updates.

If the issue persists, I suggest you to try the methods listed below to see if it works for you:

    Method 1

    Reset Mail app:

    • Open Settings and choose
      Apps
      .
    • On the right pane under Apps & features, locate and click on
      Mail and Calendar.
    • Choose Advanced Options and click on
      Reset.
    • Once the Reset is complete,
      Mail app
will disappear from the taskbar for a while.
    • Search Mail from the Start menu,
and open the same to see if it works.

    Method 2

    Re-register Windows 10 apps:

    • Right click the Windows icon on the taskbar and choose
      Windows PowerShell (admin).

    • Copy-paste the following command and hit Enter:

      $manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest
    • Wait for the command to run its course, and exit
      Windows PowerShell,
      once complete.

      (Ignore the errors)
    • Open Mail app now to see if it still crashes.

    Method 3

Uninstall and re-install Mail & Calendar app:

    • Right click the Windows icon on the taskbar and choose
      Windows PowerShell (admin).

    • Copy-paste the following command and hit Enter:

      Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
    • Once the command is executed, restart the machine, and install
Mail & Calendar apps from Microsoft Store.

    Regards,
