Windows 10: Windows Mail is starting my webcam

It only started today but when I open Windows Mail my webcam light turns on.


I don't want to disable my webcam as I need it for video conferencing. I had one video conference this morning on Zoom and all was working fine but for my second my video would not work and I am assuming it's down to this.


I see no reason why Mail should start up the webcam. Help please!!

• Run the troubleshooter for Windows apps.
• Install the driver using the compatibility mode.

Webcam had disappeared

The webcam may have stopped working due to hardware failure, or a loose cable that connects it to the device’s motherboard. We suggest that you try to show hidden devices in
Device Manager by following these steps:

• Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
• Click on the View tab and select Show hidden devices.
  

If you are seeing the webcam drivers, uninstall them. Then restart your device to check if Windows will be able to recognize the webcam and will install the drivers.

Mail app will not open on 10041.

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it.

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

• Open powershell as administrator
• Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
• Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)
