Windows 10: Windows Mail setup for Verizon now AOL account

I just got a new PC with Windows 10, and for some reason cannot get the Windows Mail app to sync with my Verizon / AOL email account. Verizon email was bought by AOL some time back; email address and server settings are still Verizon though. I'm using all the same settings as my previous PC Windows Live Mail as well as several other devices phones. So I know the settings are correct, however the Mail client will not sync retrieve email to Inbox. Help please!

Using:

Incoming email server pop3.verizon.net:995

Outgoing email server smtp.verizon.net:465

Authentication on both incoming and outgoing

Outgoing is POP3 server

Outlook and Verizon Mail on AOL

AOL has merged with Yahoo now both belong to Oath. My rarely used AOL mail however is working OK with IMAP on Thunderbird so must be just Verizon related.

All AOL based Email, that's AOL, AOLUK, Aim, Compuserve, Netscape and Verizon now goes through mx-aol.mail.gm0.yahoodns.net: Which is probably why it keeps throwing up the Yahoo stuff?

 

Email accounts accessed through Windows Live migrating from verizon server to AOL Mail.

I have been using Windows Live Mail to access my verizon.net accounts for a couple of years. Recently, verizon advised me to move my accounts to AOL Mail in order to keep my verizon.net address since they were getting out of the email business and would
be wiping their servers.

I went through the migration process with AOL last Saturday without any issues until noticing that the Storage Folders were listed ok, but were empty!. Verizon claims its a Windows Live or AOL problem now that I've migrated. What to do?? Where are the contents
of the Folders actually stored? I can see them right now on my Windows Live Mail screen.

QUESTION: Can I simply migrate my two AOL accounts to Windows Live and solve problem that way??

 

Outlook and Verizon Mail on AOL

Sometime back Verizon gave their e-mail operations to AOL. All has been working well until earlier this week when suddenly the IMAP folders would not sync. Checking online, all that could be found was to reset the IMAP settings in Outlook. After doing this multiple times, uninstalled/reinstalled Office 365. Seems Outlook wants to go to Yahoo servers instead of AOL. Using manual repair, attempts to change them to AOL were not successful, kept reverting back to AOL.
I contacted AOL, response was to reset the IMAP settings, which I've done many times.
Finally in a web search I found two threads in answers.microsoft.com about others with the same issues. AOL was giving them the run around as well.
Finally I got another response from AOL:

Based on the information provided, please note that you can encounter this situation due to the recent updates made to our website.

Unfortunately, at the moment, there is no option available that allows to make any changes to the specific settings.

Given the situation, you have the option to install and use the AOL App or you can access your account, by going to mail.aol.com.

Obviously AOL has no intention of resolving this issue. Not good news for Outlook users.
