You're welcome. Glad to help as much as I can.

Do you use a Registry cleaner?

Obviously you see the USB Controller in Device Manager, yes? It may be corrupt drivers as well. Haven't had trouble with USB since 8.1. I've uninstalled all USB Hubs one by one before (expand USB Controller > right click every hub > uninstall), then rebooted in which it reinstalls the drivers and corrects everything in the Registry. That's worked for me in the past.

Trouble is, when uninstalling you will loose any USB mouse or keyboard to reboot with, unless you have a reboot button on your tower. You can do it with the standard PS/2 port mouse or KB if you have one around.

It's either that, or a Repair Install of Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade: Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade Installation Upgrade Tutorials

That's the only fixes I would know of.

No. Should I be using one?

Yes, that's the first thing I looked at after reading your previous post. No yellow ! icons, though.

This machine doesn't have PS/2 ports. Wouldn't it work to do a hard reset with the power button?

Could I uninstall then manually reinstall the drivers? I could control the machine remotely with TeamViewer.

Absolutely not. One of the worse utilities to use. In fact, I stay away from any 3rd party fixit/tweak it programs. All that is needed is in Windows already. Just have to learn them.

    That's what I figured.

Not sure, for that's like a power loss or pulling the plug. You could try it.

Good idea. Try that if the hard reset doesn't work. Good luck.

Windows makes iPhone keep asking to allow access...

I manually uninstalled the drivers then rebooted and that worked ... until the next time I connected my iPhone a week or two later. (I believe I got my words mixed up with what I wrote previously: "Could I uninstall then manually reinstall the drivers?").

So twice I repeated manually uninstalling the USB drivers and rebooted, but this time it did not work.

I ran the Windows USB Troubleshooter and got the result "USB controller is in a failed state or is not currently installed..." just like the screen shot above.

Is there a way to manually install the USB drivers?

You've been gone awhile, so in refreshing my memory > Did you upgrade to 10 originally from a prior OS? How many times has it had feature updates? And which edition and version are you on?

Edit: You show 10 and 7. Are you dual-booting?

I was afraid that would be the recommended fix.

No, 10 came on this Dell desktop when I purchased it Jan. 2017

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by that

    Home x64, 10.0.16299

No dual booting. One machine is 10, another machine is 7 (actually three 10 machines and two 7 machines).

Thank you again for your help - I'm very grateful.

You're welcome. Wow that's a lot of machines. All yours?

7 had SP1 and SP 2. 10 is the last OS by MS. So biannually they will introduce feature updates like the SPs. You are in the latest Fall Creators Update, version 1709 with build 10.0.16299 so you're all up to date. That build number will increase with each monthly accumulated update(s). The version changes with the new feature update.

Do you use you phone in other PCs?

I will be gone for 15 minutes or so...….

My old and new main machines, laptop, wife's desktop, weekend cabin desktop.

    Got it - thanks.

Besides the problem unit, I use the phone in the laptop (10 native) and the old (7) desktop. The latter two machines handle the iPhone properly.

Ok, so we can rule out the phone just to make sure.

Hold Windows then press X > Device Manager > Right click on the computer at the top > Scan for hardware changes.

Sorry should've told you just to report what you found.

Do you know how to take pics/shots of things and upload them here?

What is the last item you see there in Device Manager?

Ok good. Expand System devices. Do you see Any *Warning in there?

Right click on Universal Serial Bus controllers and scan for changes.

No *Warning - Is it normal to have five entries that all are "ACPI Fan" (and a couple other apparent multiple entries)?

Does not appear to have found anything
