Windows 10: Windows not Auto-rotating on laptop

Hello, I have an HP ENVY x360 - 15m-bq121dx. It's been a great device up until now. Today, it decided it didn't want to rotate anymore so I can't use it as a tablet right now, which is half the reason I bought it. I've done everything I can to figure it out and did fix it, for a minute: I've done a system recovery, wiped drivers, edited the registry, combed through settings, even smacked the darn thing a few times. It worked for a second after I edited the registry, but decided to break again:

In the registry in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AutoRotation there are dword's pertaining to auto-rotation. After I did the system recovery, windows was acting like it had no accelerometer to speak of and thus didn't even give the option in settings to autorotate. I looked at the registry and noticed that the 'SensorPresent' dword didn't exist, and I added it in, restarted, and it worked again! Then it re-broke. the dword's are all still there, and even have correct values, windows is just being very rude.

I've also tried both versions of AMD's virtual buttons drivers to no avail, and I've uninstalled and refreshed darn near every driver in device manager than could possibly be useful. I'm at a loss and really just want my rotation back and HP support is closed rn and they're usually useless anyway. If anyone can help me, I'll be beyond greatful!

• What is the make and model of your device?
• Have you checked on the action center if there is a Rotation lock option?

In the meantime, we suggest that you check the Screen Resolution display to check if there is a setting to allow the screen to auto-rotate. Here are the steps:

• Go to Control Panel.
• Search for Display and then click Change display settings.
• Mark the checkbox beside Allow the screen to auto-rotate option if possible.
• Click Apply and then OK.

Why does my screen not rotate?


The auto rotation lock feature is turned on by default in Windows 10. Use the following steps to turn off this feature.

1. Place the tablet into Pad/Tablet mode.
2. Click the Start
   
   menu and select Settings.
3. Click System.
4. Click Display.
5. Scroll down and toggle Lock rotation of this display to OFF.

Try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: Remove all the external devices connected to your Tablet., check for the auto-rotate option.

Step 2: Check the auto-rotation setting.

• Swipe in from the right edge of the screen and tap Settings. (If you're using a mouse, point to the top-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down and click
  Settings.)
• Tap or click Screen, and tap or click the screen icon above the brightness slider to unlock auto-rotation.

Note: The screen icon includes a padlock when auto-rotation is locked. When auto-rotation is locked, the screen won’t rotate when you change the orientation of Surface.
