    Windows not mounting anything

Windows Version 2004 (OS Build 19041.572)

I have recently found an issue where it seems like Windows is unable to mount anything.

I first found the problem when I plugged in a harddrive and it didn't show up in Explorer or Disk Manager. I know it's a good external HD and USB cable and I tried both USB ports on my laptop (which I've also confirmed work).

I then tried using my WSL terminal which was working last week but when I try to enter it now (>wsl.exe), it was just hanging for over an hour with no response. wsl --cd //wsl$/Ubuntu-20.04/home/user/dropb gives the error:
The network name cannot be found. [process exited with code 4294967295]
Opening Explorer and going to "\\wsl$" results in a permanent doing nothing. No error or anything, just permanent loading, which makes me think WSL is unable to mount its filesystem or something.

Finally, Windows Explorer is unable to mount an .iso (which I did fine with the exact same one last week). Double clicking on it results in _something_ happening in the background but I don't know what. I have also tried Mount-DiskImage -ImagePath [PATH_TO_IMAGE] and that also just does nothing. It doesn't return an error, it just waits.

I have tried rebooting, sfc /scannow and dism but I am unsure what to do next. It would perhaps be good to try mounting something with verbose to see where the issue is but I'm not sure what command to run. It seems very strange that these 3 very different things are linked but it seems like they are.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

    :)

    Error when mounting ISO files

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand when you are trying to delete/rename/move the ISO files after mounting it you get an error message. It could be possible that the ISO file is mounted and that is the reason you are unable to modify it.

I suggest you to eject the ISO file and then try to modify it. Please follow the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows key + E, to open
      File Explorer
      .
    2. Click on This PC on the left pane, you will find the mounted ISO file.
    3. Right click on the ISO file and click on Eject. Try modifying the ISO file now.

Please reply with the status of the issue, we will be glad to help you further.

    Regards,
