  1. Windows not shutting down/sleeping properly

This has happened twice now, windows would not shut down properly. when i press shutdown, the monitor goes black but cpu fans and lights keep on running. Moreover, system also doesnt recognize my headphones even tho the ports and headphone itself are functional.

I dont know how it fixed itself before but it has happened again in 5 days. I just connected LAN cable and this issue happened.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 not shutting down or sleeping properly

    Hey,

    I have a Dell Laptop with a i5-4210U CPU, 4GB Ram, 2GB Nvidia 820M Graphics.

Recently I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1, and I've been experiencing several issues.

Note that I have dual booted with Ubuntu Linux and that OS shuts down and sleeps properly.

(The problems mentioned have been persisting from even before I dual booted. So please don't blame Linux for this)

    • The laptop does not shutdown properly. This happens only
intermittently and sometimes everything is fine other times the screen switches off, but all
USB peripherals will still be getting power. Note that when it does shutdown properly,
the USB peripherals are turned off.
    • The laptop does not sleep properly. Same as above, this problems occurs only intermittently and the phenomenon of the
power being delivered to the USB peripherals but the screen is off is present.
    • The startup time is very long i.e the time from the windows splash screen to the point when I can actually use my laptop
is like 4 mins. Till then the interface is lagging as hell and File explorer doesn't even open.

I have tried the solutions suggested in laptop not shutting down after windows 10 upgrade and Windows 10 will not shut down completely? Power light stays ... - HP Support Community - 5180111 .
But these are no help. (There was not any Dell forum discussing this topic)

All my drivers are updated to the latest drivers as provided by Dell.

  3. win 10 will not shut down properly

    Hi Richard,

Usually, this issue occur due to outdated or corrupted device drivers, services or processes which are not shutting down properly, or third-party programs that prevents your computer to shut down properly. For better assistance, we'll be needing additional
    information:

    • Have you made any recent changes on your computer prior to the issue?
    • Is this an error message Explorer\windows\settingsync\BackgroundUploadTask? If yes, where are you getting this message?
    • If possible, can you send us a screenshot?

Meanwhile, we suggest that you run the Power troubleshooter as an initial troubleshooting step. To run the Power troubleshooter, follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + X and select Settings.
    • Choose Update & Security from the list.
    • Click Troubleshoot in the left pane of the window.
    • Under Find and fix other problems, select Power
      and click Run the troubleshooter.

We'll keep an eye out for your response.
