    Windows Only detects 100GB of a 1TB drive


    Hi there,

    For some reason, Windows is only detecting 100Gb of 1TB drive. The drive is where Windows is installed on. I looked in Disk Manager, thinking that maybe there was space that wasn't be used, but alas it only detects 100Gb. All of the 100Gb seen is already being used up. Does anyone happen to know why that is?

    Wow, I don't want to be going around half cacking things and having them blow up in my face. haha

    I have a 1TB drive running Windows 10. The HD was replaced and the new one was partitioned with 2 partitions. One, the "C" drive (partition) was allotted 100GB and the the other one, the "D" drive was allotted the remainder, 900GB.

    What I do not understand is if I only need 80 to 100GB then why do I need a 1TB hard drive? And you are correct about it being my own files filling up my "C" drive so fast. I did go into the settings and set all new photos, music and data to go to the "C"
    drive but nothing ever goes there.

    Well as a good guide a Windows 10 partition should be 100GB. However you must take into account the number of applications you use in everyday life . . .

    My system has a 128GB SSD and 1TB Data Drive, I use a lot of applications and have never run out of space on the 128GB SSD. My Windows Folder in general is usually 20GB - 30GB.

    So following on from that, a 100GB Partition would be more than sufficient for your OS, Applications Wwindows Updates, System Restore . . . etc., which would leave you with ~ 800GB Data Drive
