Just bought a Ion Air Pro 3 WiFi action camera. Works on W7 but the WPD driver has a yellow triangle in the device manager but I can access the camera memory card. In W10TP, no yellow triangle but it blue screens when I try to access the camera memory card. If I removed the micro SD card after recovering from the crash, I can read it.

The PC software has cosmetic problems in W7 but perfect in W10TP which I find odd. Files are in QuickTime format and there is a auto rotation feature that does work when viewed with Media Player in W7 but does in W10TP. I assume this is because W10TP doesn't have the WPD problem. QuickTime for Windows must be used in W7 for the auto rotation CODEC to work. Auto rotation is for mounting the camera at 90, 180 and 270 degrees and still showing upright.

Anyone else having camera access issues?

    :)

    Hi,

Do you have any Portable device driver installed (open Windows Device Manager and open "Portable Devices" folder)?

  3. Sync Error-tried everything but revert back to XP

Windows Mobile Device Center fails to connect due to the Windows Portable Device driver failing to load.
In some cases, you may be unable to connect and only a red X error icon is displayed in Windows Mobile Device Center. This can be caused by Windows Portable Device driver failing to load.

    Connect your device

Go to Manager (Computer > Properties)

    Find the Portable Devices node

Locate the Windows Mobile device entry

    Choose to uninstall the driver

    Reconnect your device

Your camera isn't a "Windows portable device" as your thread title states since it doesn't run Windows which makes it misleading. You may get more interest in your thread with a more accurate thread title like "downloading video from Ion Air Pro 3 camera" or something like that.

I've always thought the software provided with a camera for downloading pictures/video was pretty unimpressive. I don't even bother with it anymore. I use a card reader, simply remove the SD card from the camera, pop it in the card reader and copy the pictures/video to where I want on my computer. That way I don't need to worry about the camera software being compatible with my OS.

Once the video is copied to the computer, you could use software that would convert/rotate the video and save it rotated instead of rotating it during playback. One possible free program is this: http://fixounet.********/avidemux/

Would like to see a screen shot of my device manager where the WPD drivers have installed for its use? Why should I use special software for rotating videos when QuickTime does it for me? If you do Google "WPD drivers" or something like that you will see post about driver problems with cameras.

Every time I access the memory card in/out of the camera, Windows want to scan it but finds nothing but no so in W10TP.

The only way to change any settings is from their software which comes from the camera's firmware and can't be run from anything but the camera.

I guess you had some reason for posting in this forum but obviously not for suggestions. Good luck.

Well your telling me that I don't have a WPD! When plugged in the first time, Windows finds a new device and installs it. I have no control over that and it installed WPD drivers. If the camera is plugged in the device manager shows a drive using WPD drivers so I don't understand where you are coming from.

I posted here because when the camera is accessed from W10TP, it blue screens.

Ok, I was wrong about the WPD, never heard that term used in that way. To me, a portable device that runs Windows (such as a tablet) is a Windows Portable Device. Sorry for that. I still think you might get more interest in your thread with a diffrent thread title.

I was simply trying to offer an alternative way for you to retrieve the video from your camera's sd card without using the obviously buggy camera software.

As for why you would want to permanently rotate the video with a 3rd party program as opposed to letting WMP rotate it during playback? Are you serious? Would you ever want to share your video with others? What if those people don't have/use WMP (or don't have the Codec)? What if they want to watch your video on their phone or tablet?

I have the blue screen crash with my USB capture card. I'm waiting for either a Windows update or driver update to fix the blue screen problem. This happened with the second release of Win 10.

Yeah, I never heard of WPD before either.

Taking that tiny micro SD out and putting it into a adapter is a PITA.

You are missing the part about auto-rotate. There is a sensor in the camera that detects if it is "mounted" 90 deg. either way or upside down and a Codec is added to the file to read right side up. That's what the W7 WPD can't but W10TP WPD can handle. I've never seen a picture of it being used other that right side up. I probably never will use it that way but I read of so many people having a problem with it that I tried and ended up in the same boat.

You are correct, depending on what you view the rotated file on might not show right side up. W8.1, I assume uses the same W10TP WPD driver and does rotate the video. I think they designed this camera for Apple products first and Windows was a late entry. Using the Android app on my Nexus 10 I don't even get sound! No sound on MOV files is a known issue but I would have thought to they'd check that first.

Does it use WPD as well? It uses a driver from Hauppauge. It worked good with the first release of Win 10. I also lost the ability to print from Firefox and Thunderbird. Have you checked the manufacturers web site for a updated driver? The yellow triangle is a driver problem. Hopefully the next build of 10 will start fixing some of the bugs.

I don't know if this would help or not but it may be worth a try. Delete the camera driver in device manager and restart the computer. This will reinstall the driver.

A bit of a follow up on this. I did two things and one or both fixed the W10TP crashing when I access the camera's memory card. The default player used by W10TP is Windows Media Player it's something other. I switched over to PotPlayer for other reasons that I'll not get into here. The other is that they have a good sale on a Lexar 64GB Class 10 microSDXC at OfficeMax/OfficeDepot ending tomorrow. The 32GB microSDUHS1 Class 10 included in the package deal was some off brand(GoSpeed) which I couldn't locate online. Although marked HD Ready/3D/4K, I'm not sure about it.

They claim that the camera is finicky about the cards used. Although they say Class 4 or above. I've read that it needs a Class 10 to work correctly.
