Windows 10: Windows restarts after monitor-shutdown interval

This is something relatively new. I generally have my Win10 (1709/16299.371) machine set to turn the monitor off after 20 minutes' idle time... no sleep mode, just monitor-off. But concurrent with some recent update, I often wiggle the mouse to bring the screen back up, only to see that Windows is back to the sign-on screen. Of course all programs that had been running were shut down and have to be restarted also. When this happens the computer does not shut down completely, but it's as though it goes into some super-hibernate mode where the BIOS is still running but it loses Windows. This doesn't happen all the time, but I can't associate this action with anything else going on. I cancelled the monitor-off feature and everything runs fine, just that the screen is always on. Just wondered if anyone else has seen this.

Yes updating the driver appears to have worked. I will keep monitoring it however, as past shutdown intervals have varied considerably. Thanks for your help.

Yes, Windows 10 was activated. First I tried a full reset but didn't work. then I reinstalled Intel HD graphics 3000 driver but was a bad idea, the result, a sad face unhandled exception when rebooting. So I proceed to do a new installation but this time
"clean" (I didn't keep anything).

At first I thought the problem was finally solved but it really wasn't. Now I know why video is lost during installation. The problem resides in the "restart". When "restart" is executed, after the system reboots it will lose the main monitor and you'll
need an external monitor connected to the hdmi. During installation "restart" operations are executed and that's what leaves you without video each time. Once in this state, switching between different monitor modes doesn't work.

Instead that doesn't happen if you "shutdown". When you "shutdown" video behaves correctly, and next time you'll turn the machine on it will work ok (included switching between different monitor modes).

After a "restart" you'll depend on an external monitor to log in but once inside Windows 10 you can re-obtain video in the main monitor by executing a "sleep". When you'll wake up the laptop you'll have video signal in both monitors.

A " restart" leaves the system in an inadequate state for running graphic applications, for example "Graphic properties" hanged, and after that restart/shutdown concluded badly (I had to turn off pressing the power button for a while). So until I don't
succeed doing a shutdown the system won't be in condition of operating correctly. For that I have to do a "shutdown without log in. If I log in after a "restart" it won't be possible to do a clean complete "shutdown" from inside a user account.

A first review and changes in battery power saving settings (since my battery needs replacement) didn't solve anything.

Any ideas????

update: I turned off "fast startup". Didn't solve the problem, even worse cause it looses video in the laptop also after a "shutdown" and 2/3 on the external monitor you get a blank screen where task manager doesn't respond. But there was a difference, without
"fast startup" Windows 10 recognizes the right resolution of my external monitor (1920x1080) but the laptop monitor becomes inexistent. Turning on "fast startup" things return as before but my external monitor has to work with the same resolution of the laptop's
monitor (1366x768)
