    Windows Security Center Alert

Under Device Performance and Health, received notice "Temporary Internet Files Not in Default Location."
Ran the troubleshooter and issue was corrected.

Anyone familiar with this error ? How would the files be changed to a location other than default ?

OS is 1809, v17133.1. Also, yesterday ran chkdsk which was not successful (stayed at 10% for 2 hours and I exited) Possible cause ?

    :)

  2. My Windows Security Center is off

    Hi,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Communities.

I will be glad to help you with the issue you have with the computer. I understand the inconvenience when things don't work the way it should.

You can turn off the alerts that Windows Security Center sends when there is an action you can take to enhance the security of your computer.

    • Open Security Center by clicking Control Panel, clicking
Security, and then clicking Security Center.‌

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation,
type the password or provide confirmation.

    • In the left pane, click Change the way Security Center alerts me.

    • Click the alert option you want.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide
      confirmation.

    Thank you.

  3. windows defender summary scan does it still suppose to work despite path got changed last week

i know this past week that a folder got created C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Platform\4.12.17007.17123-0\MsMpEng.exe and apprently i also notice it in windows defender scheduler tasks in actions for example windows defender scheduled task
    file name is also\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\platform\4.12.17007.17123-0\MpCmdRun.exe

my question is by doing that does it affect the way summary scan alerts you in action center saying it scan few times but no threat found or does it still suppose to alert you in action center security and mainteance

basically i want to know have a summary scan alerted anybody in 1709 this past week action center since the path change? if somebody who can clarify this to me i be much appreciated

    Windows Security Center Alert

I'm not familiar with that problem. Run the chkdsk and sfc /scannow and see what it finds.

  5. Were those problems there before upgrading to 1809 (Is it actually 1803?)? It might make sense to return the previous version if there's enough time to do so.

    My bad, it is 1803.

Sfc/scannow is clear. Don't have time at present to run chkdsk. There is a concern that previous chkdsk stalled at 10% after about 2 hours. I read others have same issue with chkdsk stalling.

1803 was installed when the version was released last week. This problem just developed today after the chkdsk yesterday.

The troubleshooter resolved the issue. The mystery is why did it occur ?

    Appreciate the replies.

  7. "Sfc/scannow is clear." That's good.

"There is a concern that previous chkdsk stalled at 10% after about 2 hours. I read others have same issue with chkdsk stalling." I've seen similar issues that you mention before Windows 10. Check your HDD optimizing schedule. Mine is automatically on a weekly schedule.

This problem just developed today after the chkdsk yesterday.
--- I'd run a HDD diagnostic program: Maybe available from your manufacturer. There are 3rd party HDD analyzers but since I haven't had to use one, I don't have a recommendation. Might want to check out the appropriate forum for advice.

The troubleshooter resolved the issue. The mystery is why did it occur ?
--- That certainly is a mystery but maybe it's because there is a HDD issue and the locations were affected by some areas that needed "fixing" and the troubleshooter took care of that.
--- Does the troubleshooter include any hints in its report of what it fixed?

It might be a good idea to check out how to analyze the HDD in the appropriate forum for advice.

    Windows Security Center Alert

I ran a HDD diagnostic program about 2 months ago and all was fine. Can't recall the name, but will try to locate. The troubleshooter just gave the generic statement " issue resolved" and the warning sign disappeared.

I am using a 5 year old Toshiba laptop but it shows no signs of faltering (knock on wood). When I exited the chkdsk when it stalled, I did so by manually turning off the computer. I did read when this is done without letting chkdsk complete, some files may be lost. No files were lost but possibly the temp files being moved from default was the result ?

As you can imagine, my main concern is a hacking attempt but can't find any other indications.

Certainly appreciate your replies/info, MeAndMy !

  9. You could try chkdsk again and let it run overnight.
I would also check the HDD's optimizing schedule.
Check Security and Maintenance in Control Panel and ensure no issues are present.
