  1. Windows Security Center Service is turned off notification

For a couple of weeks I have been receiving an occasional "Windows Security Center Service is turned off" notification. Since this started happening, when I turn on the computer I leave my cable modem disconnected and powered off until I check two things: Settings>View local services to confirm that Windows Security Service is running, and Settings>Update>Windows Security, which either says that no action is required or says to set up OneDrive. Then, after I connect the Internet, I sometimes get the "Windows Security Center is turned off" notification.

This computer has Windows 10 Home Edition, Version 1809, OS build 17763.615. The information I find online about this issue either does not apply to this version--e.g. there are no turn on/turn off options in Windows Security--or the information is conflicting--e.g.some people say that the startup type for Windows Security Service should be automatic, others say that it should be manual. When this problem first arose, the startup type was set to "automatic(delayed)," grayed-out and unchangeable, but in the meantime it has changed to "manual," again, grayed-out and unchangeable. There was a suggestion to use DISM and SFC commands to confirm that Windows did not have any corrupted files, and everything checked out.

What can I do to make sure that Windows Security is always running and does not turn itself off?

The first time I received this notification, I was using my Hotmail email account, which is also a Microsoft account. I logged off and went to a second computer and changed my password. Now the first computer says that I need to go to shared experiences and log into my Microsoft account, but I am obviously not going to log on to anything on a computer where I have concerns about Windows Security. I have 3 computers with Windows 10, and they all have only local accounts and everything in shared experiences set to off or blank. Why is this one computer concerned about my change of password? The other computers never display that notification.

    :)

windows defender & security center services keep turning off

Are you running any other AV or did you have one running in the past? If you didn't use an uninstaller for the AV, then the remnants of it could be causing the problem. Normally any time you install an AV it disables Defender by default.

If you are getting any error codes please list those, that will be helpful in helping you.

As torre suggested, might be a good idea to do a reset or even a reinstall.

Windows keeps turning off the security center.

    Hi Maninder,

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

    • Press Windows key + R and type Services.msc then hit enter.
    • Services Console will appear.
    • Find Security Center Service on the right details pane > right click it choose properties >
    • Security Center Properties should appear > on the General Tab
set start-up type to automatic (Delayed start)

    • On service Status Stop and then Start.

If this does not works & error still continues then there are more chances that your system is infected
