Windows 10: Windows Security is blank.

Hello. I'm handling a pre-owned laptop on Windows 10 version 1909 only updated a few hours ago that someone gifted to an elderly friend. A few weeks before Christmas I was able to run Windows Security on the unit before it got packed up for the holidays. But now, after running Windows update, I was surprised that Security was virtually non-existent; even Windows Defender Firewall was down. I've managed to locate the services; they're still there, but even after fiddling with group policies and running checks that fixed some corrupted files, I'm still banging my head on my desk.


I have to emphasize though, that the unit was pre-owned with an existing Windows 10 Pro license. I'm not much of a tech person, so I'm not sure if the Security settings may be limited by the person who first owned the laptop: again, I'm a bit ignorant about these things. I'm at my wit's end, and any kind help would be appreciated.

windows xp installation and dual core am

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx

That made me so facepalm. Some people have absolutely no clue. I hope they don't take you for granted with all this you're doing for them.

SonicWall is a good security product, so Mindweaver's suggestion sounds like a good one and should make for a rather bigger baby step. Let's hope they take it.

Here is a statement from a Kernal Developer at Red Hat:

I'm not sure this exploits the legacy BIOS but rather it exploits the legacy boot method on MBR drives, injecting a signed key before the OS boots, which you are correct in that it has nothing to do with Windows 8. And the simplest fix would just be to require boot drives use GPT when Secure Boot is enabled in UEFI.
