Windows 10: Windows shuts down before completing update

As the title states, Windows shuts down before the cumulative updates can finish. It gets to exactly 7% every time before shutting off completely. I've had this computer for about four months and I cannot recall it ever actually completing. The error code I'm getting when checking my update history is 0x80070002.


I regard myself as decently tech-savvy and have tried every solution found on Google. Here are a few I have tried without luck off the top of my head. There are way too many to list completely:


- Disable all non-Windows services

- Run the update assistant

- Cleaning out old update files in safe mode

- Running a whole plethora of commands in the command prompt


Here are a few of the updates which have failed recently: KB4517389, KB4524100, KB4515384, KB4514359... The list goes on I can't really tell them apart.


This is my last resort before giving in and completely wiping my disk, which will hopefully work. There was a user on this very forum with a similar issue, but the discussion died down before a solution was presented.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Windows 10 is unable to complete shut down

We suggest doing these troubleshooting steps below:

Method 1. Hard Reset

• Shut down your computer.
• Remove the cable and wires connected to your computer.
• Press the Power button for 10 seconds to completely drain your device.
• Check if there's any changes.

Method 2. Shutdown trick.

• Press Windows key.
  
• Press and hold Shift.
• Click the Power icon.
• Select and click Shutdown.

Let us know the outcome.

 

W 10 will not shut down completely

I have not changed the Intel Search Engine to a previous version as suggested, so I cannot say whether it works for my computer or not.

What bothers me is that after Windows updates when my computer is on and I select reboot now instead of 3 a.m., the shut down and reboot process works fine. So, with my logic, I wonder how it can shut down completely after an update, but not when I shut
down at the end of a normal day. I feel like the ability is there, but a step is missing.
