    Hi everyone!

So I have been searching for ways to fix this issue but all solutions include using the start menu or task manager. Any suggestions for how to fix this?

For reference here is everything that doesn't work:

    search bar

    task manager

    cortana

I also can't right click to open desktop or taskbar settings

  2. Unable to access Start menu, Search bar, notification buttons on Task bar after install the Update KB3139907 on Windows 10

    Hi John,

    Thank you for responding.

We are glad to know that you are able to access Search bar and notification center after performing the above troubleshooting steps.

For the issues with Start menu, try the below steps.

Step 1: I suggest you to run the below PowerShell command to re-register Start menu and check if it helps.

    Follow:

    • Right click on the Taskbar and select
      Task Manager
      from the context menu.

    • In the Task Manager window, click on
      File
      and on Run new task.

    • Type powershell, place a check mark on
Create this task with administrative privileges
      and click Ok.

    • In the administrative Windows PowerShell window, carefully type the below command and hit Enter key from the keyboard.

    • Get-appxpackage -all *shellexperience* -packagetype bundle |% {add-appxpackage -register -disabledevelopmentmode ($_.installlocation + “\appxmetadata\appxbundlemanifest.xml”)}
    5. Once the command execution is completed successfully, close the PowerShell window and reboot/ restart the computer.

NOTE: When you are running the PowerShell command, I recommend you to close all the apps on your system and try.

    If the issue still persists,

Step 2: I suggest you to try the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the below Microsoft article and check if it helps.

Windows start menu, search bar, and task manager not responsive!

Start Menu/Task bar not responding / very poor response.

Since a week, fed up with Start Menu not responding/ responds occationally.

Too Slaggy response of Task bar button (like Time & Date, Search, file explorer, and mainly Start button from keyboard, mouse left click).

Right click works fine with instantly displays of the menu.

Tried all possible ways to fix start menu issues

    1. sfc /scannow,

    2. msconfig (tried safe boot also),

    3. Battery removed & replaced again,

    4. Start menu trouble shooter application from MS,

    5. Powershell (admin level) >> reinstalled windows apps,

    6. Also scanned whole system with couple of Antivirus, Malware scanners.

    7. Restarted Windows explorer from Task manager,

    8. Created new admin user ( logged in & deleted when worthless)

    etc... etc....

EXCEPT Steps of Clean install of OS, Image restore, OS Refresh.

None of them worked ... also checked for what software was causing these issue, but no new s/w was installed recently except Windows 10's own update a month ago & is update to date as of now ....

Everything works fine except these few above mentioned issues.

After all these trials, now I simply threw the shortcut of the start menu folder to my desktop to run required programs.... Windows start menu, search bar, and task manager not responsive! :(

As I do not want do the EXCEPT Step which requires a whole lot work to reinstall all needed programs to run again.
