Windows takes an inordinate amount of time to start up/restart/resume

    HP desktop i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.41GHz 16GB RAM Win 10 Home

While this computer has a good amount of RAM, it goes from restart to "severely congested/slow to resumefrom sleep" fairly quickly (a couple of days).

Now I admit that my practice of keeping several workspaces open, each with one or several instances of Opera and Firefox, each of which has multiple tabs (which I find very convenient) uses a lot of this RAM, it is now much worse than it used to be. Also the computer normally is used several hours daily.

Is this likely caused by a need to defrag? (I have not been doing it because I have had in mind that Win 10 does not need defragging?) But if so, how often should a defrag be done?

Or is it likely sole due to my practice described above, or something else? What can I do to gather helpful information on this? Thanks.

    :)

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond Windows takes an inordinate amount of time to start up/restart/resume :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.

    Random restarts

when you start the computer up press F8 repeatedly until you get a list of how to start windows, choose do not automatically restart on system failure. if your getting bsod's list what your getting here so we can further help you. IF the system is not getting bsod's and still restarting as you say then i would look into getting a line conditioner for your computer as you might be having power issues.
