Windows 10: Windows Technical Preview Installation Problem

I am trying to install Windows 10 Tech Preview : WindowsTechnicalPreview-x64-EN-US.iso 3.81 GB (4,100,497,408 bytes), have checked sha1 also.
But I am not able to install even after repeated attempts.
Below is the system info and my Bios options available in my laptop. Summary: Windows 8.1 x64, Legacy Bios with MBR File System.

A. Trying to do clean Install using Flashable USB Drive

Commands used to prepare the usb flash drive using Diskpart utility:
list disk, select disk 3, clean, create partition primary, format fs=fat32 quick, active, assign, then simple copy paste contents from mounted iso file
Note: Current File System is MBR and current OS is Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit

Trial 1: BIOS Settings: UEFI BOOT SUPPORT Disabled and PXI OPROM Disabled/Enabled tried both
Stuck At Windows logo without the round cursor while booting as below:

Trial 2: UEFI BOOT SUPPORT Enabled
No Windows Logo Appears, Directly It starts with Loading files, Loading Files Completes and then It goes to black empty screen and gets stuck there.






Trial 3: I even tried to use Rufus Tool using following setting, but even here No Luck *Sad




B. Trying to upgrade from the existing Windows 8.1 x64 OS
Also when I try to install simply by clicking setup.exe in the usb flash drive created above, it starts installing asks what to keep like personal files.. And goes till 88% after which it says system will restart in few moments and then it restarts for the first time while restarting it stucks at the windows logo itself and doesn't proceed further, I waited for 10 mins there bit still remains stuck, so did force reboot using power buyton and then laptop starts previous Windows 8.1 and then says could not Install Windows Technical Preview.




Just to verify if my flash drive has some problem, I created Windows 8.1 Installation Disk using diskpart fat32 file system with the same commands as above
And guess what when I try to boot using this: It Boots up within 40 seconds when the windows logo appears in following conditions :
UEFI BOOT SUPPORT Disabled, PXE OPROM Enabled/Disabled

Cannot sign into new user accounts, User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

I have the actual windows 10 installed, not the technical preview, but this problem is still here.

 

Anyone who does a clean install of Windows Technical Preview will be eligible to install the full-fledged Windows 10?

Original Title: Upgrading from Windows Technical Preview to a full-fledged and genuine Windows 10

According to FAQs, Windows 10 will be a free upgrade to those who install the Windows Technical Preview.

Does that mean anyone who does a clean install
of Windows Technical Preview will be eligible to install the full-fledged Windows 10?


One scenario:

If a user is using Windows XP, Vista or even a pirated copy of Windows, he can choose to download and do a clean install of the Windows Technical Preview. Will he be eligible to upgrade to Windows 10?

 

I'm really hopeful to see some suggestion on this...

 

I believe you need the Execute Disable bit enabled... PXE should be off, as this is for booting from a network card.

 

Execute Disable bit is necessary for newer operating systems. I first discovered this when trying to install Windows 8.

I tried with these settings got EDB enabled and PXE disabled but I could never get Win10TP boot properly from the usb flash drive.

I have also tried with an another usb drive that i have, no success evwn there.

Two fail scenarios which are being repeated are:

1. When UEFI Boot Support Disabled
First Screen: WIndows Logo without the animating cursor. And It will stay at this screen. No further action.

Then I will have to do force shutdown, remove the flash drive from the USB. And then restart the laptop. It will boot properly to the exusting Windows 8.1 pro x64. Everything back to where I started.

2. When UEFI Boot Support Enabled in Bios Settings
This time No Windows Logo Appears, the first screen that I get is:
First Screen: Loading Files... This will continue to the end and then next screen would be
Next Screen: Simple Black Screen with No action. And It'll stay like this at this screen.

Then again I have to force shutdown my lappi, remove the pendrive and start the lappi, and everything back to where I was.

 

Please expand the BIOS Boot Device Support so we can see the choices. Are you booting the flash stick as a UEFI device when you try to install in that mode?

The flash stick remains suspect until it achieves an install on any PC. For installing in UEFI mode then follow Option One for UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows.

Do you have SECURE BOOT or PROTECTED BOOT option. This needs to be set to OFF or something like enable Legacy Boot

I'm probably out of my depth on the BIOS options but will just mention these,

1/ You have made the ISO file bootable by using a program such as "isotousb" ?


2/ You say it got stuck when trying an upgrade. I've not done an upgrade but during my x86 install you would think it got stuck part way through. The reason, a buggy and incorrect wifi driver that W10 installs during the install procedure. It takes 90 minutes for me to complete a clean install because of this, and there is no way to stop it or disable it until it booted to the desktop.

 

I have two desktop PC's that 10 TP will not install on from a USB thumb drive. They both boot from the thumb drive but freeze at a black screen with a flashing cursor. They have a standard non UEFI BIOS. That same thumb drive installed 10 TP on my laptop that has UEFI, with no issues. I burned a DVD from the same ISO and was able to install 10 TP on my desktop PC. I tried 3 different methods for creating the bootable thumb drive and none of them worked on my desktop PC. Why the DVD worked and the thumb drive didn't, I have no idea.

Update One: Flash Drive is all right I tried to use this on my friend's Dell laptop and it worked like a charm. So no issues with that.

Update two: This issue, I have also shared on MDL's Forum: A lot of update here on this. Not Solved yet though.

Windows Technical Preview Installation Problem Legacy BIOS+MBR

I have went through a lot of trials 20+ times with various different Settings, even tried installing using command prompt/(using dism) way of Installing Windows OS. But, unfortunately no luck even then.

After all this trials I can conclude for there are three types of fail results two of them depends only on the option what I select for UEFI Boot Support Enabled/Disabled in Bios Settings before trying to boot from the bootable Win10 usb drive:

Generic Settings that I have tried:

Filesystem of the Laptop's Disk drive: MBR as well as GPT now(same fail cases in both)

A. When File System was MBR, Options I tried

a. For bootable USB Flash Drive creation:
Using Rufus: MBR partition scheme for Bios or UEFI Computers and NTFS/Fat32
MBR partition scheme for UEFI Computers and Fat32

Other Bios Settings:
EDB: Enabled (Its a mandatory requirement I believe)
AHCI: Auto Mode, (When disbaled there was some boot problem, so I kept it on Auto.Besides on its description it says, Its Enabled for Win Vista,7,8 and Auto disabled for Win XP)
PXE OPROM: Enabled/Disabled (tried for both one by one) : (Don't think makes any difference as far as my problem is conserned.)

B. When File System is GPT, Options I tried

a. For bootable USB Flash Drive creation:
Using Rufus: GPT partition scheme for UEFI Computers and Fat32


b. Other Bios Settings: Same as above.



Fail result I. When UEFI Boot Support Disabled

Fail Result III: Whenever trying to Upgrade from Windows 8.1 x64 by simply mounting the Win10TP iso and then running the setup.exe

Updated the OP with the current screenshot of Bios. Flash Drive has no issue. Tried to use on my friend's lappi and it worked great.

Secure Boot is not supported by my System, as that can be seen from the Screenshot of My System Config:

 

How about BIOS "Boot Device Priority?" It has the arrow pointing right which means the choices are hidden.

I'm sorry but I'm missing where you confirmed that you are booting the flash stick as a UEFI device? So we've not seen the Boot Priority choices showing this and I cannot find where you've answered this question yet.

You said that you used the flash stick on your friends PC but is that BIOS set to UEFI?

I have a very similar problem, yet occurs with DVD install too.

I have tried both, thumb-drive and DVD install. Both get to just about the same place, sitting there with blue windows-8 logo, then goes to black screen.
Actually, the DVD install manages to get a couple of the circle-dots to move, then stalls. In both cases, at this point, I have hear the HDD running, presumably loading files. Then black screen.
Only out then is to hit the power button.

The Windows 7 install on a different partition of the HDD is not adversely affected. When I restart, it loads up fine.
