Windows Time is constantly out of sync

My computer is overclocked with XMP settings (my RAM is XMP). Would that have anything to do with a clock that's out of sync?

Also, how would I check my CMOS battery? Would I just replace it and see what happens or is there a way to test them?

If it's overclocked out of the component's specifications then results may be unpredictable, I guess.
Test the battery with a voltmeter or multimeter, or yes, just buy a new one. I doubt they're expensive.

I'm sure this is not it, but I'll toss it out there anyway. Do you have AOL Desktop 9.8 on your computer?
When I installed AOL 9.8 my desktop clock began to run fast. I reverted back to AOL 9.7 and the problem was fixed. I tried it again and got the same result. Just thought I'd pass it along as you seem to be out of options.

Actually, I do have it installed. I'll give it a shot tomorrow and see what happens. Have you contacted AOL about this issue? Could there be another fix other than installing AOL 9.7? When you uninstalled AOL 9.8 and re-installed AOL 9.7, did you run CCleaner or something in between? I doubt everything is completely erased from the registry when you uninstall, well, anything.

I also had another thought. If you aren't familiar, there is a person or a small group of people that have ported Windows Media Center to Windows 10. Google it. I do not have the latest version installed, but would this also cause any issues? I imagine that WMC interacts with your clock when starting/stopping scheduled recordings.

Actually I'm still on WIN 7, but the new 9.8 AOL Desktop was definitely the problem in my case. I tried reinstalling it again weeks later and got the same result with my clock speeding up.

When I uninstalled 9.8 from Control Panel the computer went out and found all versions of AOL on my computer (AOL does not delete any prior versions when you update its desktop) and when I checked the remove 9.8 box to uninstalled that version it automatically reverted to the prior 9.7c version. I was up and running with AOL instantly again and my desktop clock was again running fine.

I emailed AOL and needless to say they were of no help even though I could reproduce the problem. I did post this potential software conflict issue on the WIN 7 forum.

I have Windows Media Player that came with WIN7. Never had an issue with it or AOL or my clock until I updated AOL to 9.8.

Let us know how it turns out for you with WIN 10

    @poolmon....

So I uninstalled AOL 9.8, it said I still had AOL 9.7 on my computer, but it didn't launch after uninstalling AOL 9.8. Do you know where I can download AOL 9.7 from?

EDIT - I think I found it here - Download AOL Desktop by AOL Inc.

I'll test it out, but it looks like that even after uninstalling AOL Desktop 9.8, my time is back in sync. AOL Desktop 9.7 I can confirm DOES install on Windows 10.

If your clock works correctly with 9.7 but not 9.8 you may want to email AOL. The more they hear it from us users the more likely they may be to develop a fix. After reinstalling 9.7 I still periodically get reminders from AOL software update that it wants me to put on 9.8. I disabled that notification service until AOL decides to fix the problem. I'm sure a number of others have the problem but have just not noticed it yet since 9.8 is so new.

Interestingly, I installed 9.8 on a friends computer that I help maintain and her clock was not affected. Another friend installed it on his computer and AOL would not function. All computers (WIN 7) have much the same hardware/software. The only other major software I have on my adversely affected computer that is not on the non-affected one is Fidelity's Active Trader Pro.

Hope your clock remains stable. Mine has.

Windows Time is constantly out of sync

I went ahead and contacted AOL, (sent an E-mail to AOLHelp) but to be honest, I don't think their support has been all that good since DSL became popular, and that they started offering free service. What was that, like around 2003?

Yes. Unless you get their paid service (which they still offer) they will not provide phone support. I did get a response to my email about 2 weeks after I sent it but it was not helful except to the extent I knew they read they email.
So is your clock still in sync with 9.7?

I just checked, it was about 2 1/2-3 minutes fast still with AOL 9.7, but much better than with AOL 9.8.
@Edward, would it work if I tried replacing the Windows Time server entry with the time server used in NetTime?

I doubt changing the setting will help, but it seems like you have nothing to lose by trying it. I noticed with 9.8 I had the biggest time fluctuation when I left AOL Desktop open all day. If I closed it when not using AOL the fluctuation was substantially reduced.

Is there a way to prevent AOL Desktop from modifying the system time via Local Security Policy? If so, would that fix anything?

That's above my pay grade. I'll have to the response over to someone more in the know.

Yeah this does seem to solve the problem... kinda weird how I'd never had issues with the default one til I switched to a new am3+ board
and it decided gmt+12 should be at the gmt+7 time ...

  15. Hi

Sorry to hijack this post. I also had the same problem. My clock seems to be out of sync. Or rather it does not sync as frequent as it should or something. It would sometimes be like 1 or 2 hrs behind...which i presume that was it last sync time then I think it got interrupted or something and hence the clock is like 1 or 2 hrs behind.

    I am using time.nist.gov.

Previously I was using the windows.time. That was like a few minutes behind/or ahead. Even after i manually sync it, it still has that problem. So it should not be a syncing issue. More like the windows time server issue.

For time.nist.gov., I just though that the sync might be interrupted. Is there a way we can verify this? Oh is a new Asus laptop with windows 10 preinstalled.

    thanks guys.
