Windows 10: Windows tried to install earlier version of KB4023057 ( error 0x80070643) possibly causing...

My laptop has already installed the December 2018 version of KB4023057 on 8th December as well as the November 2018 version

but this evening it tried to install the November 2018 version again.

I had started it from hibernation and it had connected via wifi but I hadn't logged in, after about 5 minutes it suddenly stopped dead as if it had done an emergency shutdown. When I started it again I checked updates and there was a failure to install KB4023057 but defender had updated itself successfully. I have run the troubleshooter for updates and it said the update was ready to install, I also ran the power troubleshooter and it only reported it had changed the time before going to sleep mode.

I am reluctant to run the update again until I am sure why the older update should be re-installed when the December update has gone through.

The laptop had an unforced emergency shutdown a week ago and I did a recovery to 2 days before (8 Jan) so I am not sure if KB4023057 caused the crash although that time it happened on battery power same as this time and the battery charge was well above 50%.

The most recent updates I had (after the restore) were KB4480966, KB4480979, KB890830, and KB4100347 which went through normally on 12th January.

so does anyone know why Windows would try to do an older update which it had previously done 2 months ago and whether I should try and stop it or risk running it?

I am using Windows 10 64-bit Home Version 1803 (build 17134.523) any useful replied appreciated thanks.

I also have Windows 10 1709 : KB4023057 listed in programs and windows update is also trying to install it and failing at 71%
whatever I do !

So I have it already and it's still trying to install it and failing....

Anyone know a sensible course of action to remedy the situation ?
