Windows 10: Windows Update 2004

Hi there

I have been a happy Microsoft OS user for more than 30 years doing updates and upgrades since Win3.1. At the moment I am running Win10 Pro ver. 1909 on an HP EliteDesk 800 G2 SFF Intel Core i5.


Never have I been so frustrated and angry trying to install the new Win10 Ver.2004. I was advised some months ago that it was available but should wait until it is ready for my area, which it was, supposedly, 6 months ago. Since than the update is automatically downloading and installing every time I check for updates. And every time I get a “failed to install” notice. Checking on the internet it appears that this update is a big problem for many users. Solutions are as numerous as there are problem users. I tried a number fixes on one of your help site, incl. a callback from M/S. No help at all. Always the same answer: Feature update vers. 2004 failed to install followed by various error numbers.

I am giving up on this update and my question is: Can I download and install the latest version "20H2" it is now ready to download and install without having first installed the troublesome version "2004"???

2004 update windows 10 error 0x80070002

Hello everyone,

thanks to some of the suggestions here and to some from other sources I have managed to fix the 0x80070002 error breaking up my feature update to 2004.

For completeness' sake and since it may help others, the following steps worked for me.

1. Download Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website
2. Create a bootable USB drive with the MCT
3. Boot up from this USB Drive
4. Choose install settings, click 'Next', but on the next screen select "Repair your computer" instead of "Install"
5. Choose "Troubleshoot" -> "Startup Repair" and let it finish
6. Restart into Windows and attempt the usual Windows update

It looks like the BCD on my computer had been damaged by the boot loader (Windows 10 + Recovery partition) and running the "Startup Repair" from the installation USB Drive corrected the errors.

 

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Having problem update to Windows 10, version 2004
