Windows 10: Windows Update 2020-08 KB4566782

Good afternoon,


Windows update KB4566782 won't install....error message states ox8000ffff may help.


I ran SFC /Scannow several times, I got message that says "There is a system repair pending which requires reboot. Restart windows and run SFC again.


I did a system restore to an earlier date, SFC command ran successfully. Results showed "Corrupt Files".


I ran DISM .......Restorehealth, got message that "source file cannot be found"


I deleted everything in the Windows/Softwaredistribution/Download folder...still no luck.


Currently, Update History shows Cumulative Update Windows 10 Version 2004 for X64 KB4566782 2 failed to install 9 /2 /2020. I cannot access the internet and a couple of applications won't open. Can you help?

Failed to install 2020-08 Cumulative Update/KB4566782

Hello, I've run into the following issue while updating Windows 10.

Windows Update tried to install the 2020-08 Cumulative Update. It downloaded, installed and requested to restart. Upon restarting, it blue-screened stating SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. It looped once
more with the same problem and eventually went into self-recovery mode, automatically uninstalling the update (and then booting into Windows without issues).

The 2020-08 Cumulative Update no longer appears through Windows Update. I checked my installed version (19041.388) and indeed it is left behind (the latest version is 19041.450). The patch responsible for upgrading
is KB4566782, so I headed over to Microsoft Update Catalog found it and tried to install it manually. The result was exactly the same as before, failure due to SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.

I have verified my Windows installation through the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool as well as 'sfc /scannow' but none of these tools found any issues.

Any ideas/suggestions on how to overcome this issue? Thanks in advance!

 

2020-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4566782) - Error 0x800f081f

To fix Windows Update error code 0x800f081f, manually install the patch by following these steps:

1. Open the Microsoft Update Catalog website below.

2. Enter the update package number into the search bar.

3. Highlight the correct version that’s compatible with your PC.

4. Click ‘Download’ next to the update package.

5. Click on .msu link to download it.

6. Double-click on .msu file to apply the update.

7. Reboot.

Alternatively, you can pause the update that caused the installation in the first place. This can be found by going to Settings -> Update and Security -> Windows Update -> Pause updates.

Apparently, this doesn’t seem to have worked for everyone and people are still failing to install Windows 10 August 2020 cumulative updates. If nothing works for you, it might be better to wait until Microsoft refreshes the update package on Windows Update.
