  2. Windows 8 and updates after January 14, 2020

Can I upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 instead of Windows 10? And if so, will I still be able to get Windows updates and technical support for Windows 8 after January 14, 2020?

Windows 7 support will end on January 14, 2020

Windows 7 support will end on January 14, 2020. After that, technical assistance and software updates from Windows Update that help protect your PC will no longer be available for the product. While you could continue to use your
PC running Windows 7, without continued software and security updates, it will be at greater risk for viruses and malware. Microsoft strongly recommends that you move to a new PC running Windows 10 sometime before January 2020 to avoid a situation where you
need service or support that is no longer available.

    Windows Update 2020 January 14!?

    Reinstalling Windows 7 after 14 January 2020

I'm planning to keep my very old laptop with Windows 7 and use it without the internet for basic tasks like word processing and watching DVDs.

What I am wondering is what happens if I ever need to reinstall W7 at a later date.

I'm having difficulty explaining what I'm wanting to ask here so please bear with me!

I know that no new updates are being produced after the End Of Service date. But can I still get all the updates up until 14 January 2020? I suppose what I'm asking is does the Windows Update service stop completely - or does it continue providing the updates
that were existing on 14 January 2020 - but just not any new ones. Thanks.
