Windows 10: Windows update 24H2 Windows start search not working

My system updated to Windows 11 24H2 on 12/4/2024. Since then, the search function on start does not work at all. The moment I type anything into the search bar a blue line keeps moving across the start box and never resolves. I've gone into services.msc and both restarted and refreshed search. I've also gone into search in settings, selected enhanced, and had it index everything. The search function appears to be broken and can't be fixed. Yes, I've turned the system on and off several times. I also run search and indexing troubleshooting and it can't find anything.

To turn off windows updates in windows 7 follow these steps:

Click the start button, in the search box type in 'windows updates', click on 'windows update'
in the search results list, in the left side of the windows update window click 'change settings'
then in the option bar select 'Never check for updates'.

 

FIXED!! Windows 7 sp1 never ends searching for updates

need KB4048970 if using Vista - that's the latest win32k.sys patch. while it's listed for Windows Server 2008 only, it should also install & work under Vista SP2 as I've tested myself on an old Vista machine.

Ok I did another reboot, disabled windows update service, did step 3 again, this time it installed an update, enabled windows update service and did a reboot and voila!! *Peace eace:
