Windows 10: Windows update and activation.

I purchased my laptop acer aspire 3 a315-41 about a year and half ago from flipkart. Well ever since then I could never update my windows.
Always had error failed to update, we couldn't complete update etc. Sometimes I forcefully had to download updates even though I was on metered connection because services.msc windows update options were greyed out i had no control over them. As it was always running. Wasted so much time. Tried everything online. Had to reset my pc several times. Even tried to update via update assistance software, media creation tool. It was able to update but it never activated my windows 10 product key. Always gave me error. Always had to roll back. Yes I was on call with microsoft support for hours but they could not help me either. Even tried clicking on change product key and entered the one i had. I still faced the error.

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.

 

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.


Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Windows updates...

Oh. Your "Registry" must have gotten screwed up FLY3R. If for some reason you couldn't download your updates I suppose you could go to the update site, and run throught the steps 'till it fails activation. Then you could go up to "Tools > Manage Add ons > then disable "Windows Genuine Advatage Validation Tool." Of course you should only use this method if you are having problems updating your legitamate copy of Windows XP. Perhaps do to a corrupted piece of software? *Smile
