Windows 10: Windows update cannot connect

Having some very odd issues with Windows 10, one of which is Windows Update will connect.
I get this message - We couldn’t connect to the update service. We’ll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn’t work, make sure that you’re connected to the Internet.

I have had some assistance from Windows Tech but still no joy.

I have run a file called Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components.bat but I still cant connect.

Another oddity is that if I put the cursor in Search the web and windows it displays a message saying we cant connect to web search at the moment ..... make sure you are connected to the internet. Well I am conncted to the internet.
Also Egde will not connect to any website, says Hmm, we can’t reach this page. Is there something that links Edge and Update?
Again the Windows Tech had a go, ran a PS script but Edge still fails to connect and now I cannot even create a new account - seems Windows 10 wants to do it via the internet

ALL-NEW WINDOWS PHONE EXPERIENCE: LUMIA CYAN UPDATE

Problem: My Windows 7 laptop will not connect thru phone hotspot since the cyan update to my Nokia Lumia 1520. Cannot do Windows updates thru internet, cannot connect.

 

Problem with connecting to Wifi

After the November update for windows 10 there is this problem of Wi-fi connectivity. I can connect to an open Wi-fi but if I try to connect to a secured network it just cannot. Says "Cannot connect to this network".

 

I also tried the following
Run the network troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Type “Troubleshooting” in the search bar and press “Enter”.
In the “Troubleshooting” window, click on “View All” on the left pane.
Click on “Incoming Connections”.
Click on “Advanced” and then click on “Run as Administrator”.
Click “Next” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

and

Click "Search" and type "Command Prompt" without quotes.

Right-click the "Command Prompt" item and click "Run as administrator."

Type "ipconfig /release" to release your IP address. Do not type the quotes. Press "Enter."

Type "ipconfig /renew" to renew your IP address. Again, do not use the quotes. Press "Enter."

neither of which resolved anything !

 

Suggestions :

1. Do a system file check to look for corrupt files.

2. If system file check does not solve the problem, do a Repair Install.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

 

The last few times I saw that it was caused by malware, but MBAM couldn't be used because it was terminated everytime, Adwcleaner was the utility that removed enough to get access to internet again.
My suggestion is to try running Adwcleaner, then MBAM and then your AV.

DISM normally isn't necessary if SFC shows a clean result, but it may depend on what command you want to use.
ScanHealth and CheckHealth aren't useful if SFC reports a clean result, these commands let you know if there is any corruption which normally isn't present when SFC reports a clean result.
RestoreHealth fixes the source of SFC, again not required if SFC reports a clean result.

There are a few other commands, but 2 of them analyze the size of the Windows Component Store and clean up the Windows Component Store where possible.
Another one removes backup files that have been created during the installation of a service pack, after running it is normally impossible to uninstall the service pack.
The last one isn't recommended unless you're in a recovery environment to perform a recovery operation on a Windows image that doesn't boot.

 

do I need to configure adwcleaner or will it just do its thing?

hmmm, downloaded and ran both, still the same issues so it looks like the "windows in place" will have to be the next step ....

ah, or agh, I dont have an option to temporarily disable secure boot as I cannot see anything for uefi firmware settings, selected shift whilst restarting, went to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options but there is no UEFI Firmware Settings
I have rebooted and selected the bios but I cant locate anything in the bios settings that mentions Secure Boot.

 

What are the scan results?

Looks like you have lots of unnecessary stuff installed (some possible malware or adware?), probably came in packages with other programs you installed.
Some of such programs may unfortunately also block access to internet in any way possible, usually due to improper configuration, a good start would be to go through the installed programs in program & feature in control panel and remove everything you don't know and don't need.
