Windows 10: Windows Update keeps trying to install an older Intel Graphics Driver and keeps failing...

Lenovo Legion Y740, Windows 10, v2004 Build 19041.329


Intel core i7 9750H, 17.3" 144Hz GSync, RTX 2080MQ, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD.


Problem

Since last 2-3 weeks, this one update is stuck in Windows Update.


> Intel Corporation - Display - 26.20.100.7463.






But this update keeps failing saying

> A current driver on your PC may be better than the driver we're trying to install. We'll keep trying to install.





The Device Manager does show that I indeed have a higher version 27.20.100.8280 of the driver installed.




And yet, Windows Update keeps showing that old driver as an available update. It doesn't go away ever and is is stuck there since last 2-3 weeks.

How do I resolve this?

Windows Update keeps installing older Intel Graphics driver

Windows 10 - 17134.191 Update insists installing and older Intel Graphics driver over the manually installed newest version available. Only started doing this recently. How do I stop this from happening?

 

Windows 10 Updates installed older Intel Graphics Drivers

I just updated my Intel HD Graphics Drivers using the Intel Driver Update Utility. After successfully installing and rebooting my system, I noticed that Windows Update decided to reinstall the graphics drivers. I checked to find that the new drivers were
an older version. I had installed the 15.33.38.64.4252 drivers, and they were overwritten by the 10.18.15.4279 drivers.

My question is: why is this happening? How can I prevent Windows Update from overwriting drivers?

EDIT: Further investigating indicates that it wasn't Windows Update that was installing the older graphics drivers, it was the Intel Driver Update Utility that keeps getting old drivers. WU was trying to overwrite the old drivers that IDUU installed, and
that resulted in conflicts and blue screens. I uninstalled the drivers, let WU do its thing, and all is working fine.

My guess is that the 10.18.15.4279 drivers are the latest stable version, according to Microsoft. The manual download for these drivers are here (Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 [15.40][4th Gen]-). However,
the latest drivers are here (Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 [15.40][4th Gen]-),
but I guess these have yet to be signed off by Microsoft.

Can someone please confirm this? Should I download the latest drivers, or just leave it to WU?

Windows 10 keeps updating an older graphics driver

• What is the make and model of your machine?

I suggest you to enable the integrated graphics in the control panel of the Nvidia
and check if it helps.

• Did you try updating the Graphics card which you have installed recently?

This issue might have caused due to incompatibility of the display card with your machine. I suggest you to check with the manufacturer if the display card is compatible with you system and check if it helps.
