Windows Update Last Night - Now Windows Live Mail Only Receive Message Subjects, No Email...

Last night my computer did an automatic Windows 10 Update.

Using Windows Live Mail, and starting this morning all my emails show up, but only each email subject is shown, the body of each of the messages is missing.

    Message could not be displayed

Windows Live Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.

    :)

    Greg,

Thank you for your quick reply....very much appreciated.

Yes, I knew Microsoft was phasing out WLM, but have been a bit lazy in migrating to something else.

Part of my reluctance is that my work has me receiving up to 5,000 emails a day, of which I save as many as 10-15 a day in various folders for future reference. I just very much like the storage set up WLM has. I can easily find previous emails, and also
easily drag messages from my inbox to various storage folders.

I have considered Outlook, and also Thunderbird as prime candidates, along with others...again just have not had the initiative to make the switch.

You mentioned Windows 10 Mail, but you say it does not have storage folders. So, I assume I would have to set up all my folders in my gmail account and save messages there instead of downloading them to my computer. I assume then that all the historical
mail I have now in various storage folders would be lost.

So, in order to hold on to all my stored messages, I assume I must export them to something else.

    Any other recommendations appreciated.

    Thanks, Steve

    Greg

Hi SDAdolf. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator, here to help you.

Windows Live Mail has been discontinued for 3 years, and is actively being shut down, with warnings for over a year that features would be shut off soon:

    https://www.computerworld.com/article/3067121/e...

I would migrate now to WIndows 10 Mail which is comparable except that it doesn't store any mail but is only a sync service for your web and Office Mail boxes. There's a full guide to set it up and use it here:

    https://www.windowscentral.com/how-get-started-...

I have no problems using WIndows 10 mail for several years now to sync all of my web mail boxes, like the ability to merge inboxes (or not) and the huge ad-free reading pane.

Note that you may need to uninstall all Windows Live Essentials to get WLM out completely so it doesn't keep claim as default Mail app and you can choose a new one in Settings > Apps > Default Apps.

If you have Mail you need to export to another Mail program, I would do it now while you still can as shown here:

If you want to express your opinion on this to Microsoft use the Feedback Hub app in Start Menu where developers are tasked to process consumer feedback. They will not even see it here. This is a tech forums staffed mostly by volunteers trying to help others
    with your problems.

If you want to post back a Share link from your Feedback here others who see this thread can vote it up and add to it.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
