  1. Windows Update & Microsoft Store crashing - Windows 10 version 20H2

Since update two days ago, the Microsoft store and Windows updates are crashing.

    Microsoft Store:

When I open the store it takes ages to load and then if I click downloads & updates the screen freeze and after a few minutes the store crashes. I have tried the wuauserv fixes noted online, none of them work, apparently the file is not located on my machine. the DSIM / restore health command in cmd is also not effective as I get an error stating the service was already started. When I manually end the services related to the store through task manager and then try again, I can at least access the store landing page or download new apps; but it still crashes if I try to open downloads and upgrades. This became apparent when a game I know for a fact downloaded an upgrade a few days before STILL had the upgrade available notification pinned to the screen.

    Update & Security:

When I try to check for new updates, open view update history or advanced options, the screen freezes and then crashes settings. I cannot undo the latest upgrade because I cannot access the list. I tried to download the upgrade again manually for the Microsoft Download Centre, but it does not seem that anything has changed.

Please can someone give me advice that a general user can understand; I DO have basic desktop and some background user understanding, but it would still be appreciated if the fixes suggested are clear and detailed step by step.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

As you may already know, Windows 10 (as well as Windows 8) allow you to log in with a valid Microsoft account, instead of creating a local account that only works on your machine. However, you may prefer to keep a local account for privacy reasons. If you do, though, some Windows 10 features—like Cortana—may not work. Despite the default behavior, the Windows 10 Store is not one of them. You can still log in to your Microsoft account for just the Store without switching to a full Microsoft account. The process, however, is not terribly obvious. To do so, follow these steps:

    • Launch the Store from your Start menu.
    • Click the user icon next to the search box.
    • Click “Sign-in” from the menu that appears.
    • Choose “Microsoft account” and log in like normal.
    • When the “Make it yours” box appears do not enter your password. Instead, click “Sign in to just this app instead.”

  3. Microsoft blocks Windows 10 April Update for Intel SSD 600p Series

Microsoft is blocking some Intel SSDs from installing the April 2018 Update after discovering an incompatibility issue that causes performance and stability issues. In short, the problem was explained by Microsoft as: “When attempting to upgrade to Window 10 April 2018 Update select devices with certain Intel SSDs may enter a UEFI screen reboot or crash repeatedly.” Microsoft says that this issue has no workaround and that those that have attempted to update Windows 10 to the Windows 10 April 2018 Update should revert back to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update version 1709.

Unfortunately, the announcement by Microsoft fails to list what specific Intel SSD models are having issues with the OS update. We contacted Intel and discovered that the Intel SSD 600p Series of client drives that was first introduced to the market in 2016 is the most popular drive that is having issues.
