Windows 10: Windows update removed my desktop, documents and pictures! HELP!!!

I kept getting notices while working to reboot for an update. Once my work was completed, I allowed the restart. After many reboots, I was able to get back in. Initially, my MS pin wasn't recognized but I was able to get in! Once the desktop finished loading, I noticed none of my folder shortcuts were there. When I went into the explorer, I noticed I had no Documents, downloads, Pictures etc. It was like my computer was wiped!!! Panic has now set in! I went back in explorer, Windows C - Users, and found all my files! I immediately left to purchase a backup drive because, THIS SCARED THE LIFE OUT OF ME!!!!


How do I get everything back to how it was? From the start menu, or even clicking on file explorer there is nothing in the documents, picture, download menu or anything! It's like I'm in guest mode, but I'm the admin of my own computer!! I now have to go through all these sequences just to open anything.

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

• I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

• Then I tried to remove the Pictures folder with option one at Add or Remove Folders from This PC in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials. Even after rebooting, the Pictures folder remained.
• So I tried using option two. Same thing: reboot >> Pictures folder still there.

• Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.

That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.

 

Windows 10 printing issue while printing picture from Document files.

• When you say that "I cannot print a picture from my Documents file", are you trying to print a picture present in a word document file or trying to print a picture on Windows 10?

Remove User Account Picture

Hi Shawn, thanks for all the great tutorials, I use them often myself or make reference to them.

Do the listed steps actually work on vers 1903? As I mentioned in my preceding post, Ten Forward and I both replaced User.png instead of User-192.png in order to have success with vers 1809.
