Windows Update says upgrade is ready, nothing in app, should I proceed

So when I got my laptop I had to get the windows 10 app the hard way. Now, Windows Update says that the upgrade is ready but there is no notification in the app. Wondering if it is okay to proceed? Should I expect issues because of this? I am some what computer literate but not enough to fix deep program issues if something goes wrong. Thanks in advance.

  2. Confused about Windows 10 Upgrade status

    Hello All,

    I'm a bit confused.

Windows update shows that Win 10 is ready to download.

However the windows upgrade adviser in my task bar asks to notify me when it is ready and states that upgrading now is not recommended, that my PC is "almost ready for win 10". The "check your pc" tab says I am good to go.

Being the cautious sort I am hesitant to "pull the trigger" on the upgrade with this conflicting info.

Should I wait or should I proceed?

  3. Wating status for Windows 10 updation

Open upgrade app and check the status, if it is ready, then you should wait, when your upgrade is ready you will see a notification to begin upgrade.

Meanwhile, run Windows Update and install all updates.

Hi mellob and welcome to the forum *Smile

Just make sure that BEFORE you upgrade you create an image of you current system on seperate hard drive. Or at the absolute minimum backup all your important files, settings, documents, videos, photos, music etc etc on a seperate disk. That way if it all goes wrong you will not lose anything.

Go ahead and try the upgrade. If it does does not function correctly then you can do a manual upgrade with the knowledge that all your important stuff is backed up and safe *Wink

  5. Don't feel bad -- LOTS of folks doing the Upgrade are exactly in the same position.

But ... what you need to have is a restorable backup of your current system, such that, if anything goes wrong, you can restore your current WORKING system in only a few minutes. File backups, settings backups, driver backups -- are good to have but will not restore a working system.

Macrium Reflect (MR) provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or entire drives.
What I recommend is the following:
    1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR)
    2) Run MR and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive
    3) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CD

NOW, you have the means to restore a full working system from the external drive in only a few minutes.
