Windows 10: Windows Updates and Monitors

Has anyone a problem with Windows updates breaking external monitors? It's now the fourth time since the beginning of last year that this happened. I uninstalled/rolled back/updated my drivers, even tried different releases. It's such a headache. Not updating my system can't be the solution from a security point of view, and I cannot tell which updates breaks my external monitor detection.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

'Generic PnP monitor' issue

Hello Angelica,

I would suggest you follow steps to update the monitor driver:

Press Windows + X keys

Choose Device manager

Click on Monitors

Right click on ‘Generic PnP monitor’ and click on update driver

Tap on Browse my computer for driver software

Tap on Let me pick from a list of available drivers

Choose ‘Generic PnP monitor’ and tap on Next

When you are done please restart the computer.
