Windows Updates - Extremely Slow Boot, White Screen

    Hi,

After doing updates today my computer takes an extremely long time to login to Windows 10 (1-3mins). It then boots to a white desktop with the taskbar visible, and again freezes for a few minutes. After that all seems to work fine.

When I restart in safe mode there is no issue.

Any idea what might be causing this or how to narrow down the problem?

    Thanks

    Tim

    :)

Windows 10 lock screen extremely slow at first boot.

Computer boots in just a few seconds, and after I've entered my Microsoft account password its full speed as expected. Problem is ONLY whenever I boot up my PC and it reaches the "lock screen". Here I need to click once to move on to the "enter password
screen" right, but at this point it's like I'm running Windows 10 on a Pentium90 or something. Windows Updates - Extremely Slow Boot, White Screen :p Extremely slow and "laggy".

It's not an upgrade but a clean, genuine Windows 10 install. Windows is 100% updated, so are ALL device drivers. And as I said, as soon as I enter the password and it enters Windows the PC is fast as expected. I've run several of the Windows clean-up and
troubleshooting tools and they find absolutely no problems either. It's just at this very first boot every day it's very slow. (And it doesn't matter if I let it idle at the lock screen for awhile either). If I RESTART the system after the first boot of the
day it is NOT slow at the "lock screen" at all, so this really puzzles me.

Windows boots from a NVMe Samsung SSD 950. (M2).

    CPU is a Intel core i7 6700K

    RAM is 32GB DDR4

GPU is a nVidia Geforce GTX1080

on a Asus Z170 Pro motherboard

    Any suggestions appreciated!

    White Screen on Windows 10

    Hi,

There may be several reasons why your laptop's screen will show a plain white screen. To assist you better with this concern, kindly answer the questions below:

    • Have you made any hardware/software changes on your laptop recently?
    • At what point do this white screen appear?
    • Have you tried booting your computer into Safe Mode?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done?

We look forward for your response.

    windows 10 slow boot

I was having a slow boot issue on my Windows 7 install a little while back. It would take about 30 - 40 extra seconds to boot up for whatever reason.

I would try following these steps, while this didn't solve my issue, it did increase Read/Write to where it should be.

Looks to be similar to this: https://www.back2gaming.com/focus-story/ssd-optimization-for-windows-10-windows-8-and-8-1/

In the end, I had to reinstall my Windows 7 entirely to fix the booting issue. It was taking around 35 seconds to boot, and after the fresh install it takes about 7 seconds to boot.
