  1. Windows upgrade 7 to 10, error 0xC1900101 - 0x30004

I'm at my wits end, I've been trying to upgrade my rig from Windows 7 to Windows 10 for the past three days, each time it gets stuck at 30% for hours on end, and then reports the error 0xC1900101 - 0x30004 "The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during INSTALL_RECOVERY_ENVIRONMENT."

I've tried every solution I can find, including:

    1 Disabling firewall and antivirus

2 Updating every program and driver I can

3 Renaming the software distribution backup folders and catroot to .bak variants

4 Downloading the most up to date KB4523206 servicing stack update

5 Starting the PC in a clean boot

6 Cleared over 500GB from my 1TB hardrive

7 Disconnected all peripherals during install including monitor, mouse, and keyboard

    8 Resetting BIOS

    9 Running chkdsk in cdm

I've been trying to update with the MediaCreationTool, testing both the "keep all" and "keep nothing" options but both lead to the same error. After the fourth attempt I've also tried using the RefreshWindowsTool as recommended by another similar issue found here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...e-issues/815d69d4-71fd-4b48-bb3a-d5cabc2805c5, but that tool stated that it was incompatible with my version of windows. The only thing left that I can find is an error log in Panther, but I don't have any idea how to read it nor what I can do to resolve the issue. This inability to upgrade has put me into a tight spot because a program that my college class uses requires Windows 10. That said, if anyone can lend a helping hand I'd really appreciate it.

    :)

  2. Unable to upgrade one of the system to Windows 10 Update Error 0xC1900101 - 0x20004

Thank you for the reply. I read both of those threads already.

    1. Resetting BIOS. I flashed BIOS to the latest version. Currently running default settings. No change.

    2. Andre da Costa brings up a list of reasons. For error 0xC1900101-0x20017 he says refer to error 0xc000021a.

2a. Regarding his troubleshooting steps for error 0xc000021a. He says to wipe the drive and switch from NTFS to GPT. This is incorrect. If this was true, then no one could update from Windows 7 to Windows 10 without a clean install. Beyond which, I updated
my first desktop from Windows 7 to Windows 10 when it was running Windows 7 on NTFS.

2b. Regarding his additional troubleshooting steps for error 0xC1900101-0x20017. He has a number of suggestions, such as disabling peripherals. I tried all of these for both .iso and USB installs. No luck.

    Any other suggestions?
